Den of Thieves 2: Pantera Dominates Netflix on Debut – Here’s Why You Can’t Miss It!

When it comes to creating gripping action movies, there’s no denying that he knows his stuff, and if anyone still had doubts about this, they just need to take a look at his “Den of Thieves” series. Notably, the original “Den of Thieves” continues to dominate the Freevee chart, while his latest release, also part of the franchise, has debuted at number one on Netflix following its successful run at the box office earlier in the year.

Seven years later, the den of thieves, or “Pantera,” emerged, reviving the character Big Nick played by Butler. Not only did it perform well at the box office, but also garnered a higher critical review score of 63% compared to its prequel’s 41%. Fans who had been eagerly anticipating the franchise’s comeback were more than pleased with this sequel. The plotline for “Den of Thieves 2” goes as follows:

As a fervent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that the formidable Big Nick (Butler) is once again on the prowl across Europe. His target? None other than Donnie (Jackson), who finds himself ensnared in the treacherous and unstable realm of diamond thieves, specifically the notorious Panther mafia. They’re all set to pull off a daring heist, aiming for the world’s most colossal diamond exchange. The stakes are high, and the tension is palpable!

It’s no shock that the latest installment of the franchise is doing well on streaming platforms, given how popular older action movies tend to be once they start circulating across streaming services. The new title, Den of Thieves: Pantera, has a fresh audience to appeal to following its theater and VOD release, and it’s been attracting a significant number of viewers over the past few days.

Gerard Butler Will Return in ‘Den of Thieves 3’

It appeared that the possibility of “Den of Thieves” expanding into a series had waned due to the long wait for the second film. However, once the sequel was released this year, plans for a third movie were swiftly approved. Although specifics are still scant, it is anticipated that both principal actors will reprise their roles, with Lionsgate and Butler’s G-BASE banner likely to collaborate again with writer/director Christian Gudegast on the new project.

Based on Gudegast’s past remarks about the franchise, it seems that persuading him to return as director might not require much convincing. During an interview for Den of Thieves 2 promotion, he mentioned:

From the outset, Butler and I clicked instantly. He’s a robust fellow, undeniably masculine, and our bond formed naturally from the start. His interest in the kind of material I was producing was apparent early on, and by the time we worked together on Den of Thieves, we had already collaborated on a few projects. Some of these didn’t make it to production, but a few did. Moreover, Tucker Tooley had previously worked with Butler. Overall, our team works harmoniously, and we eagerly anticipate further collaborations.

It’s likely that a few years will pass before “Den of Thieves 3” hits theaters, but fans of Butler can enjoy his past action films as they wait. Currently, “Plane” is doing well on Peacock, and movies from the “Has Fallen” franchise are also available. Later this year, Butler will appear in a live-action remake of “How to Train Your Dragon” on the big screen.
