Dennis Quaid and Nick Offerman Star in Intense Crime Thriller Sovereign Coming June 2025

Actors Dennis Quaid and Nick Offerman are getting ready to make their way to movie theaters this coming summer, as their upcoming crime thriller, titled “Sovereign”, has finally set a release date. On June 20, 2025, you’ll find “Sovereign” on the big screen, according to Briarcliff Entertainment who previously collaborated with Quaid in the 2023 baseball film, “The Hill”. In this new project, Canadian actor Jacob Tremblay portrays Offerman’s character’s son. Most recently, Briarcliff Entertainment released another independent film titled “Magazine Dreams”, featuring Jonathan Majors.

As reported by Deadline, the storyline of this upcoming film is inspired by true events and centers around a pair of characters who identify as Sovereign Citizens, involved in anti-government extremism. Their journey across the nation culminates in a confrontation with a police chief, portrayed by Quaid. The ensuing manhunt results in a series of dramatic and unfortunate incidents. Christian Swegal (known for “Proud Mary” in 2018) is the writer and director of this thriller, which was acquired by Briarcliff Entertainment in 2023. Nick Moceri, under his production company All Night Diner that focuses on film, television, digital media, audio, and content strategy, is producing the film. His previous works include “Sitting In Bars With Cake” at Amazon Studios, “A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night” (premiered at Sundance 2014), among others.

On its debut weekend, Sovereign is expected to face tough competition not only from movies in the same genre but also from other films like Disney/Pixar’s Elio, a science-fiction adventure animation; Sony’s horror film, 28 Years Later; and Magneta Light Studios’ action comedy, Bride Hard, which stars Rebel Wilson and Anna Camp. With the combined star power of Dennis Quaid and Nick Offerman, June 20 promises to be an excellent day for moviegoers to purchase their tickets.

Apart from the movie set for release at Briarcliff in 2025, they also have another exciting project hitting cinemas this weekend – an animated sports comedy titled “Sneaks“. This film boasts a star-studded cast with notable figures like Anthony Mackie, Martin Lawrence, Chloe Bailey, Laurence Fishburne, and others lending their voices to various characters. The story revolves around Ty (Mackie), a designer sneaker who’s never ventured beyond his luxurious shoebox. In an attempt to save his sister from a questionable collector, Ty encounters a group of shoes that help him learn to live outside the box and find true love, symbolized as “his sole mate.

Movies based on true sporting lives can sometimes divide audiences at the cinema, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that the film itself wasn’t well-made overall. Briarcliff’s 2023 production, “The Hill,” which features Dennis Quaid, tells the story of baseball player Rickey Hill who battles a physical disability to audition for an esteemed major league scout. Premiered on August 25, 2023, the movie earned mixed opinions from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

In their review, Raven Brunner from Decider notes that the movie currently holds a 46% rating. However, they imply that this percentage is reflected in the film’s storyline. They describe the plot as predictable and somewhat preachy but not entirely bad. The story of Rickey, according to them, is significant and captivating, although viewers may find themselves burdened by the pastor’s continuous bias against his family and community.
