As a cinephile who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of television and film, I find myself deeply torn about the prospect of a Desperate Housewives reboot. On one hand, I’m a huge fan of the original series, and its enduring popularity is a testament to the brilliance of its storytelling and character development. On the other hand, I understand Teri Hatcher‘s concerns about Susan Mayer’s potential trajectory in a revival, given the tragic loss of her beloved Mike Delfino.
I vividly remember the emotional impact that scene had on me as a viewer, and I can only imagine how challenging it would be to resurrect Susan’s story without disrespecting the emotional weight of that moment. That being said, I must admit that the thought of revisiting Wisteria Lane with some of my favorite characters has a certain allure.
If a reboot were to happen, I’d love to see it explore the lives of the housewives in the present day, perhaps through the lens of their children or even their grandchildren. It could be fascinating to delve into how their relationships have evolved over the years and how they navigate modern-day challenges with the same wit and charm that made the original series so compelling.
As for a joke, well, if Susan were to return to Wisteria Lane in any capacity, I’d love to see her quip about the neighborhood’s new smart home technology: “Oh, another fancy gadget to make me feel old? Well, at least it can’t replace Mike.”
In all seriousness, though, a Desperate Housewives reboot would require careful consideration and a deep understanding of the characters and their emotional journeys. If executed well, it could be a delightful return to a beloved series; if not, it might tarnish the legacy that so many fans hold dear. Only time will tell!
In recent times, remakes, revivals, follow-ups, and origin stories have dominated television. However, a remake or reboot of the ABC soap dramedy “Desperate Housewives” hasn’t materialized yet. There have been discussions about a possible revival or reboot of DH since it concluded in 2012 following eight seasons, despite some alleged off-screen conflicts between actress Nicollette Sheridan and showrunner Marc Cherry. Teri Hatcher has expressed her views on a potential return, and her arguments are quite compelling.
For eight consecutive seasons, Hatcher embodied the character Susan Mayer, one of the housewives previously mentioned, on Desperate Housewives. Since the series finale, she’s kept herself occupied with various projects, but that doesn’t stop her from occasionally reminiscing about Wisteria Lane. In 2018, she expressed a desire for a Desperate Housewives revival; however, in a recent interview with Swooon, it appears her perspective has shifted, and I can’t help but understand why: the desire for a reunion may no longer be as strong.
As a devoted film enthusiast, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia when the topic of a Desperate Housewives reboot arises. While it’s heartening to see fans yearning for more, I find myself grappling with the thought that we lost Susan’s beloved partner. I’m at a loss as to where her story could possibly go from here. truthfully, I can’t envision a favorable outcome, but the original series did hold a unique charm that’s hard to forget.
For a significant portion of the show, Susan was in a relationship with James Denton’s character, Mike Delfino, whom she eventually married and had a child. Tragically, Mike was killed by a drive-by shooting in Season 8 following an incident involving a loan shark. He saved Susan at the cost of his own life, a moment that left viewers tearful. Despite the passage of twelve years, it’s challenging to envision how her narrative unfolds without him, as he was, in the words of Hatcher, the one she truly loved.
It’s tough to imagine what state Teri Hatcher might be in today, given her past with “Desperate Housewives.” Though the show remains significant to her, it seems unlikely that Susan would reappear since she may have moved on from Wisteria Lane. However, if “Desperate Housewives” ever gets a revival, a minor role could potentially fit the bill.
The popular TV show “Desperate Housewives” was an incredible success when it first aired and held the top spot in ratings from 2007 to 2008. Now, thanks to streaming services, the series has found a whole new group of viewers years later. You can stream the show with a Hulu subscription or through Prime, which has likely made fans even more eager for a revival. If it were to happen, there are various paths they could take – such as a prequel, sequel, or an entirely fresh storyline.
Regardless of the kind of reboot, Hatcher might not be essential, but that doesn’t stop fans from harboring hope, disregarding her feelings. However, she appears quite determined on this point, so it’s unlikely Susan will reappear on Wisteria Lane anytime soon, even if there is another season of Desperate Housewives.
