The upcoming dystopian horror thriller featuring actor Devon Sawa, titled “All the Lost Ones” by director Mackenzie Donaldson, will initially hit movie theaters before moving to digital platforms. Originally intended for direct release on digital services, Epic Pictures has secured a short theatrical run for this film. It’s set to premiere in select theaters on April 18, 2025, and four days later, on April 22, it can be purchased or rented digitally. This is advantageous for both the modest production and the wider film industry, as independent movies seldom get a theatrical release — particularly during periods when streaming has become such a dominant force in distributing lesser-known films.
The movie titled “All the Lost Ones” made its debut at the 2024 Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival. In essence, this film portrays a story set in a dystopian America devastated by climate change and civil unrest. Nia, along with her sister Penny and boyfriend Ethan, find temporary refuge in a secluded forest cabin, only to be pursued by a ruthless rebel militia commander and his troops. The safety of their sanctuary soon turns into a harrowing struggle for survival.
In addition to Sawa, the film stars Jasmine Mathews, Douglas Smith, Lochlyn Munro, Steven Ogg, Matthew Finland, and Vinessa Antoine, among others. Donaldson directed this movie from a script written by Anthony Grant and Cheryl Meyer.
Donaldson spoke about the theatrical release announcement to The Hollywood Reporter:
Amidst a setting of an invasion and conflict on North American land, ‘All the Lost Ones’ carries an increased sense of urgency – and Epic [Pictures] is ideally suited to convey that intensity to viewers. They excel at presenting daring, exhilarating, and profound films, and I’m eager for audiences to embark on this exciting journey.
Patrick Ewald, head of Epic Pictures and film producer, appeared equally thrilled about the launch of All the Lost Ones and the acting prowess of horror legend Devon Sawa: “Mackenzie Donaldson has skillfully constructed a suspenseful tale that strikes a balance between contemporary relevance and evergreen appeal. With standout performances by Jasmine Mathews, Douglas Smith, and an unsettling portrayal from Devon Sawa, this film promises to leave viewers on the brink of anticipation.
Devon Sawa Stays Where He Feels Most Comfortable: The Land of Horror
In the 1990s, Sawa was a well-known teen idol, featuring in movies such as Casper, Little Giants, and Wild America. His performance in the 1999 horror comedy Idle Hands, where he played a stoner teenager whose hand turns into a lethal, sentient limb, demonstrated his talent for horror roles. This role paved the way for him to secure his most memorable character the following year.
In the year 2000, Sawa portrayed Alex Browning in the horror film “Final Destination,” which proved to be a significant stepping stone for his acting career that evolved in subsequent years. He remained active in independent films until 2020’s “Hunter Hunter” brought him back into the horror genre limelight. Additionally, landing a part in the “Chucky” television series boosted his prominence once more, and most recently, he appeared as a morally ambiguous detective in the slasher movie “Heart Eyes.
