As a dedicated fan of Dexter since its original run on Showtime from 2006 to 2013, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and apprehension about the upcoming prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin. The announcement that Patrick Gibson will be taking on the role of young Dexter Morgan in the new series has me reminiscing about Michael C. Hall’s iconic portrayal and wondering how Gibson will measure up.
I’ve been excitedly following the latest developments surrounding “Dexter: Original Sin” ever since its initial announcement in 2023. The buzz around this prequel series to the beloved Showtime show that premiered in 2006 has been a rollercoaster ride, with fans expressing both enthusiasm and skepticism. I can’t wait to see Patrick Gibson bring the young Dexter Morgan to life on screen, as we delve into the past ten years leading up to the events of the original series.
With Variety providing the initial glimpse, we now get a peek at Gibson portraying the young assassin. This snapshot from the past transports us back to the initial show where Dexter’s victim is seen wrapped in plastic. Above, the young Morgan dons his signature rubber apron and gloves in preparation for the grisly deed.
As a longtime fan of Dexter, I’m thrilled to see that Showtime and Paramount+ are giving us a sneak peek into the cast of Dexter: Original Sin. Having grown up with Jennifer Carpenter’s portrayal of Debra Morgan in the original series, I was initially apprehensive about Molly Brown stepping into her shoes. However, after seeing her images and learning that Christian Slater will be joining the cast as Harry Morgan, my skepticism has been put to rest.
Dexter: Original Sin Will Feature Fresh Faces in Familiar Roles
For seven seasons from 2006 to 2013 on Showtime, fans grew accustomed to recognizing characters like Angel Batista (David Zayas), Maria LaGuerta (Lauren Vélez), Vince Masuka (C.S. Lee), and Dexter’s mother Laura Moser (Sage Kirkpatrick), frequently appearing in flashbacks. Even though the series finale provoked controversy, it left many viewers feeling a deep sense of mourning, as if they had recently bid farewell to cherished relatives who had been part of their lives for eight years.
As a dedicated fan of Dexter, I was thrilled when the revival series, “Dexter: New Blood,” dropped in 2021. While the show introduced a fresh cast, it didn’t disappoint me as some old faces graced our screens once more. Jennifer Carpenter reprised her role as Debra Morgan, and David Zayas brought Angel Batista back to life. And here’s the cherry on top: John Lithgow made an appearance, giving us a nostalgic fix by resurrecting his iconic villain character, Arthur Mitchell, also known as The Trinity Killer.
In “Dexter: Original Sin,” fans won’t find the same faces occupying iconic roles as before. Instead, newcomers will step into these parts, requiring viewers to reacquaint themselves with them throughout the 10-episode series. Although some well-known actors are involved, their ability to win over audiences is yet to be determined. Here’s a confirmed roster of cast members assuming the roles of beloved characters in the upcoming prequel series:
- Patrick Gibson – Dexter Morgan
- Molly Brown – Debra Morgan
- Christian Slater – Harry Morgan
- Christina Millan – Maria LaGuerta
- James Martinez – Angel Batista
- Alex Shimizu – Vince Masuka
- Brittany Allen – Laura Moser
As a huge fan, I’m thrilled to share that in “Dexter: Original Sin,” Sarah Michelle Geller joins the cast as my favorite boss and CSI chief, Tanya Martin. Plus, Patrick Dempsey, known from “Grey’s Anatomy,” brings his talent to the table as the captain of Miami Metro Police’s homicide division, Aaron Spencer.
The release date for “Dexter: Original Sin” is still uncertain since filming started only recently in the early part of this year. Further information about the show, such as its premiere date, will be shared as soon as we receive it.
