Dexter: Original Sin Season 2 – 8 Must-See Secrets

The revival of “Dexter: Original Sin” has rekindled the thrill of the initial series, instilling hope in viewers for the forthcoming second season. In this rendition, Patrick Gibson portrays the central character, Dexter, delving into his early murder sprees and depicting how he adopted his adoptive father’s code.

To date, the show has provided intriguing insights into Dexter’s transformation (or perhaps decline) into a murderer. However, there are numerous aspects yet to be delved into by the series. Among these, we’re eagerly anticipating further details about his relationships and his past in medicine, particularly his fascination with blood slides. Here’s what we’re most excited to discover in season 2 of Dexter: Original Sin.

8
Dexter’s First Victim Blood Slide

In the realm of his victims, forensic blood spatter analyst Dexter harbors an unusual pastime – he makes a small incision on their cheeks and stores their blood in slides as keepsakes. This ritual is almost always performed after each murder, leading to complications for him during Seasons 2 and 7 when some of his blood slides are uncovered. In the novel Original Sin, Harry cautions Dexter about this practice, hinting that such actions could lead to discovery. However, it’s intriguing to ponder what might have motivated Dexter to adopt this peculiar habit in the first place.

Early Cuts

The webseries titled “Dexter: Early Cuts” depicted some of Dexter’s initial criminal activities. In the first installment, he is seen collecting a blood slide for the first time from a marine sniper named Alex. Nevertheless, the authenticity of “Early Cuts ” is questionable, considering its inconsistencies with the main series’ chronology. Additionally, since Harry had advised against taking souvenirs, it seems something significant must occur to make Dexter reconsider his actions.

7
Time in College

In the new series “Original Sin,” it appears that Dexter already holds a college degree at the beginning, which seems inconsistent with the original show’s timeline, where he commits his first murders during college. The original series also suggests that Dexter went to medical school, while in this prequel, it is only mentioned that he was pre-med in college. Despite these conflicting details, the idea of a future serial killer studying pre-med is intriguing, and we’re excited to see more about his college years through flashbacks or possibly even glimpses into his graduate studies.

Dr. Dexter

Is it plausible that Dexter might have found alternative ways to express his urges? Could he have used his skills to save lives instead of taking them? Although this was not the path his life took, it’s intriguing to speculate whether Dexter the murderer could have transformed into Dexter the physician. Moreover, his educational background may have nurtured and sharpened his fascination with blood, unknowingly honing him into a more effective killer.

6
Meeting Doakes

James Doakes was a cherished character in the initial “Dexter” series who, unlike most others, didn’t trust Dexter from the very first episode. This distrust stemmed from his belief that something wasn’t quite right about Dexter. However, we don’t have much insight into their relationship prior to this suspicion, such as why Doakes became so suspicious so soon. Furthermore, it was hinted that Doakes might possess a ‘dark passenger’ of his own, and we’re eager to discover how this inner darkness unfolds in the story.

Deadly Rivals

Regrettably, in Season 2, Doakes met an untimely end, leaving little time for me to delve into his backstory. Despite the brief stint he had on the series, my connection with Doakes and his interactions with Dexter were undeniably intriguing among all the characters. I’m eagerly anticipating how their relationship unfolds further, and if Dexter’s suspicions about Doakes turn out to be correct.

5
Dr. Vogel’s Sessions

In the contentious season, Dr. Vogel, a figure of debate herself, played a significant role in helping Harry develop his code and regarded herself as Dexter’s ‘spiritual mother.’ During Season 8, she sought Dexter’s assistance to find the elusive Brain Surgeon, whom she believed posed a threat to her life. As they delved into uncovering the murderer’s identity, Dexter gained insights into Vogel’s history with Harry, such as how Harry approached her for guidance regarding his son. Additionally, Vogel had numerous sessions with him, and though some of these were disclosed in the initial series, there are many more intriguing aspects about their relationship that could be explored further in ‘Original Sin.’

Possible Sessions

It’s common knowledge that Harry visited Dr. Vogel prior to Dexter’s first murder and just before his own demise. We think he may have also consulted her shortly after the code was initially activated, a moment where she could have fine-tuned it even more. Moreover, it would be captivating to delve deeper into Harry’s thoughts as Dexter carries on with his murders, and possibly rehabilitate Dr. Vogel’s character by placing her at the heart of the prequel storyline.

4
Relationship with Tom Matthews

Thomas Matthews, a close friend of Harry’s and a mentor-like figure to Debra and Dexter, held a high position as Deputy Chief in the Miami Metro Police Department. In the days leading up to his passing, Harry requested that Matthews look after his children. From then on, Matthews made considerable efforts to assist them. However, these actions sometimes impeded his ability to discern the truth, such as finding it hard to accept Dexter might be the Bay Harbor Butcher, unless he was already aware of Dexter’s secret and was adhering to Harry’s wishes to conceal it.

Changed Dynamic

In the series “Original Sin,” Tom has not made an appearance yet, but a widely held fan speculation proposes that Harry informed Matthews about Dexter’s dark side (the Dark Passenger) and asked for his assistance in covering it up. Alternatively, it is plausible that Matthews uncovered the truth independently and aided in the concealment to safeguard Dexter. Either scenario would significantly change the characters’ interactions and offer new interpretations of events in Season 7. Furthermore, as Matthews played a significant role as a mentor for both Dexter and Debra, we are eagerly anticipating his introduction to the show, even if the theory doesn’t materialize.

3
LaGuerta’s Interest in Dexter

As a dedicated cinephile, I can’t help but marvel at the captivating performance of Captain María LaGuerta in “Dexter.” In Season 7, she came dangerously close to unmasking our enigmatic protagonist, Dexter, only to be tragically felled by his sister Deb. During the early seasons, her fascination with Dexter was palpable, often flirting with him awkwardly throughout Season 1. However, by Season 2, this intriguing dynamic was unfortunately abandoned. As we delve into “Original Sin,” she appears to harbor a grudge against Dexter, leaving us curious about the events that might cause her to perceive him in a new light.

Catching Feelings

In the original series, LaGuerta came the closest to unmasking Dexter. Initially drawn to him, she eventually turned against him entirely when she discovered that he had framed Doakes as the Bay Harbor Butcher. Although their relationship didn’t develop further in the original show, it seems possible that it could in the prequel, potentially shedding light on both LaGuerta and the elusive killer who escaped capture.

2
Doris’s Influence

Doris served as Dexter’s adoptive mother and was married to Harry, who had been unfaithful to her. In the story Original Sin, it was disclosed that she was aware of Dexter’s link to Laura Moser, meaning he was the offspring of Harry’s mistress. Despite this knowledge, she seemed determined to nurture him as her own, continually searching for his good qualities. Regrettably, she succumbed to cancer a year prior to Original Sin, leaving us eager to discover more about her life.

Dexter’s Evolution

As portrayed in the initial series, Doris became suspicious of Dexter following some unusual behavior she noticed. Interestingly, she decided against allowing Brian to reside with them after he attempted to suffocate Deb, leading us to ponder what actions Dexter might have taken that raised her concern but not enough for her to reject him outright. Moreover, Doris was a deeply religious woman grappling with the loss of her son, experiences that likely impacted her relationship with Dexter. In essence, we suspect Doris may have played a significant role in shaping Dexter’s development, perhaps even preventing or possibly fostering his dark path.

1
Harry’s Death

As a cinephile who can’t get enough of gripping narratives, let me recount my take on the intricate relationship between Harry and Dexter. You see, Harry wasn’t just an adoptive father; he was also the ingenious creator of Dexter’s lethal code. Despite his valiant attempts to guide Dexter away from his dark impulses, it became apparent in “There’s Something About Harry” that every one of Dexter’s kills left Harry visibly uneasy. The series suggests that Harry may have taken his own life following a gruesome encounter with one such killing, but there are hints that something else might have transpired in his fate.

Killer Concept

As a devoted cinema enthusiast, if Harry genuinely believed he’d unleashed a beast, why opt for self-destruction instead of subduing Dexter? A more intriguing scenario would be for him to survive, allowing him to finesse the code and safeguard both his son and the innocent. Considering Harry’s character and the latest developments involving Brian, Dexter’s brother, it’s hard not to suspect that Harry’s demise might not have been a suicide (or even an accident). By Season 2, I can hardly contain my excitement to see if our hunch proves correct.
