‘Dexter: Original Sin’ Trailer Premiere Follows a Young Dexter in Training

As a movie enthusiast with a soft spot for darker narratives and a deep-rooted affection for Dexter, I must admit that my heart skipped a beat when I heard the news about the return of everyone’s favorite serial killer. Having grown up watching the original series, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia mixed with anticipation as I witness the evolution of Dexter Morgan in this prequel, Dexter: Original Sin.

Prepare the “execution chamber” and lay out the protective covers, as Dexter, our beloved vigilante serial killer, is making a comeback! Starting December 15 on Showtime, the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin delves into the early life of this infamous character, who was initially introduced by Michael C. Hall in 2006. In this new installment, Hall once again lends his voice to his younger counterpart, portrayed by Patrick Gibson. The first trailer for the series is now available (watch it below), offering a glimpse into the murder, chaos, and nostalgia that await us in this exciting return.

From what we understand thus far, the upcoming series “Dexter: Original Sin” is a prequel, taking place 15 years before the initial show. It focuses on Dexter Morgan’s life after college, as he starts his career as a blood spatter analyst at Miami Metro, and is introduced to the team by his father. The recently released trailer introduces some of the characters who will be joining Gibson for the 10-episode event: Christian Slater portrays Harry, Dexter’s adoptive dad; Molly Brown plays Debra, his sister with a potty mouth; Christina Milian stars as Maria LaGuerta; Alex Shimizu takes on the role of Vince Masuka; and James Martinez appears as Angel Batista.

Sarah Michelle Geller joins the cast in the role of Tanya Martin, the Chief of CSI at Miami Metro and Dexter’s superior, as does Patrick Dempsey, taking on the character of Aaron Spencer, head of the homicide division. Additionally, new actors Reno Wilson, Joe Pantoliano, Amanda Brooks, Brittany Allen, and Aaron Jennings have been added to the cast.

‘Original Sin’ Has Us Hyped for the Dexter Resurgence

The trailer for “Dexter: Original Sin,” accompanied by a techno rhythm, is narrated by Hall, who declares, “In the beginning was blood, and a code inherited from my father.” We’re given glimpses of Gibson portraying a young Morgan, and it appears he’s an ideal fit for the role. He convincingly captures Dexter’s cold yet curious persona, as well as his facial expressions. Notably, Gibson has already garnered success through Netflix’s “The OA,” but we believe this role in “Dexter: Original Sin” could be a breakout performance for the 29-year-old Irish actor.

From there, we encounter various scenes featuring Dexter and Harry, reacquainting us with all our cherished characters, and to top it off, we get to hear Masuka’s laugh, a performance by Shimizu that truly hits the mark. If you weren’t already looking forward to Original Sin, this trailer is sure to build anticipation for its release in December.

Apart from everything else, it’s been disclosed that contrary to expectations, Dexter did not meet his end in New Blood, instead planning a comeback for another sequel series called Dexter: Resurrection, scheduled to air sometime in 2025. This is welcome news, as while New Blood was satisfactory in its own right, it didn’t quite rekindle the enchantment of the initial series. Here’s hoping that Original Sin will leave us craving for more, so we can look forward to next year and beyond with anticipation, since if this new series is successful, there might be even more spin-offs and sequels on the horizon.
