The gripping continuation of “Dexter: Original Sin” is currently airing on Paramount+ with Showtime, and although the prequel series ends on Valentine’s Day, there’s more to look forward to about everyone’s favorite serial killer, Dexter, in “Dexter: Resurrection,” set for release later this year. Alongside Michael C. Hall reprising his role as the lead character, we have exciting new casting updates to share, which will undoubtedly delight fans of both the original series and “Dexter: New Blood.
As reported by Deadline, actors David Zayas, Jack Alcott, and James Remar have agreed to join the cast of “Resurrection.” This upcoming series will continue where “New Blood” ends and “Original Sin” begins, with Dexter being critically injured by his son Harrison and rushed to the hospital in an attempt to revive him after a supposedly fatal gunshot wound. In the original series, Zayas played Detective Angel Batista, while Remar portrayed Dexter’s father, Harry Morgan. Alcott assumed the role of Harrison in “New Blood,” and was last seen fleeing after shooting his father.
So far, the revival of “Dexter” has been a hit, with “Original Sin” attracting large audiences for both Paramount+ and Showtime. The debut episode on December 13 was watched by 2.1 million viewers worldwide across various platforms, making it the biggest streaming premiere in Showtime’s history. In this spin-off series, Patrick Gibson portrays a young Morgan, as he embarks on refining his skills while interning at Miami Metro during his early years.
What Does This Mean for ‘Dexter: Resurrection?’
In the upcoming series “Dexter: Resurrection,” the returning cast members Zayas, Alcott, and Remar might give us a hint about where creator Clyde Phillips is steering the sequel, although specific plot points are being closely guarded at this time. It’s plausible that Dexter, with his secret exposed to the public, will find himself in a cat-and-mouse game with Detective Batista, constantly trying to evade capture. The character of Harry, acting as Dexter’s conscience, might be portrayed again by Jennifer Carpenter, who reprised her role as Dexter’s deceased sister Debra in “New Blood.” In this new series, she may continue to voice Harry, a role she took on in the previous series.
As Alcott takes the field as Harrison once more, it seems that a significant portion of Dexter: Resurrection‘s storyline will delve into the tumultuous life of a man who is the son of a serial killer. At present, he thinks his father is deceased, making it intriguing to explore his response upon discovering that his father is actually alive. We’ll see if he decides to hunt him down in an attempt to understand his own violent inclinations better.
In essence, “Resurrection” is proving to be an outstanding tribute to the initial series so far, while simultaneously advancing the narrative for what looks to be a long continuation of the Dexter story. The Trinity Killer spinoff is still underway in production, and given the success of “Original Sin,” we can anticipate another season as well. As we countdown to the sequel’s release in June, don’t forget to watch the fantastic prequel series currently streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime.
