As a long-time fan of Dexter, I’ve always been captivated by this complex antihero who seemed to straddle the line between good and evil so effortlessly. Over the years, I’ve found myself rooting for him despite his dark deeds, much like one might do with a mischievous pet that occasionally gets into trouble.
At San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), Dexter fans were in for a treat with a wealth of details about the upcoming prequel, Dexter: Original Sin. A revelation during the panel stunned fans when it was announced that Michael C. It appeared as though Dexter had managed to suppress his dark impulses for quite some time before encountering someone who embodied The Code – triggering his familiar desires once more.
After years apart, I found myself face-to-face with my young son, Harrison – a toddler when I set off in pursuit of a better life under Hannah’s care. Heartbreaking news reached me that Hannah had passed away, and it was letters she left behind that led Harrison to track me down. At first, he didn’t know much about his father or my past actions. However, as we reconnected, he began to understand why I disappeared.
In a challenging moment, Dexter decides to reveal his true identity to his son, suspecting, following some heated arguments, that Harrison might possess a Dark Passenger similar to his own. Initially, Harrison appears understanding, acknowledging that Kurt is a vile individual who deserves punishment. However, when he witnesses his father’s actions, such as killing an innocent man and mutilating bodies in a ritualistic manner, he is deeply disturbed. Eventually, Dexter believes the only way for Harrison to lead a normal life is for him (Dexter) to be put to death, so he instructs his son to shoot him. What to Know About Dexter
Dexter Morgan didn’t fit the typical profile of a ruthless murderer. Although he generally adhered to his father Harry’s code and targeted individuals who had committed terrible acts, his absence of remorse for these killings was peculiar yet comprehensible. Essentially, he was clearing the streets and potentially saving lives in the process.
In other situations, I’ve displayed a hint of emotion, often contrasted with my general disregard for the average human predicament. Yet, upon finding Rita’s lifeless body in the bathtub, a tragic casualty of Arthur Mitchell, aka The Trinity Killer (played by John Lithgow), I felt an unexpected wave of distress. Strangely enough, I even made efforts to safeguard Astor (Christina Robinson) and Cody (Preston Bailey). I refused to take Debra’s life, a choice that felt uncharacteristic, and was struck with genuine sorrow upon learning about my sister’s demise.
As I lay in the thick of Dexter: New Blood, my mind raced with thoughts. In those last moments, it struck me – for the first time ever, I truly felt love, a feeling stronger than any bloodlust or compulsion. I was willing to give up everything for my son. It’s ironic, being a psychopath and all, but in those final acts, I yearned to make amends for my past failures as a father. If I somehow manage to rise from these ashes, the battle within me will rage on. The Dark Passenger that has haunted me for so long may drive me to seek redemption by living a life of virtue, avoiding danger and finding new ways to suppress my inner demons. But who knows? Perhaps I’ll be drawn back into the darkness once more.
In another scenario, instead of moving forward, he might swing in the opposite direction, acknowledging that he has loved and lost, leaving him with nothing more to lose. Now, driven by a desire to give his survival purpose, he decides to target those he deems undeserving of life. This portrayal of an unconventional Dexter, one who disregards his Code or distorts it for his own ends, could offer an intriguing twist for fans accustomed to the more disciplined version we’ve seen so far.
No matter where the show takes us next, fans anticipate it will continue to be the familiar and oddly adored Dexter we’ve grown attached to over the years. With “Dexter: New Blood,” followed by “Dexter: Original Sin” and “Dexter: Resurrection,” Dexter has now solidified his status as a franchise on Showtime.
