Dhoom completes 20 years: Esha Deol says nobody was allowed to try any antiques with bikes on sets; ‘They were more precious than actors’

As a connoisseur of Indian cinema with a special affinity for Bollywood’s golden era, I must say that Dhoom stands as an undeniable milestone in the industry’s history. Having had the privilege to witness its evolution through the years, I can attest to the lasting impact it has made on both audiences and actors alike.

On August 27, 2024, Dhoom will celebrate its 20th anniversary, standing as a significant milestone in Bollywood filmmaking. Launched in 2004, this exhilarating action-thriller mesmerized viewers with its gripping plot, impressive stunts, and unforgettable soundtrack. Recently, Esha Deol, who starred in the movie, spoke to Filmygyan about her experience. She shared that during filming, the motorcycles were more valuable than the actors themselves! Keep reading to discover why this was the case.

Esha Deol explained that she never attempted riding a bike during the filming of Dhoom because the bikes were considered more valuable than the actors and were regarded as the movie’s main characters. However, Abhishek, John, and Uday occasionally rode them after work hours when they were shooting in Goa. On rare occasions, she was allowed to sit on one.

When asked about her fascination towards them, Esha spoke up about her affection for bicycles. She admitted that she currently doesn’t possess a bike, but she does own some fashionable helmets and jackets related to cycling. Moreover, she disclosed that she used to relish bike rides in the past.

As a devoted admirer, I’d like to highlight that I was captivated by the cinematic experience that brought together Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham, Uday Chopra, Rimi Sen, and Esha Deol in Dhoom. This film unveiled the heart-pounding realm of motorbike pursuits and grand heists, making a significant impact on Indian cinema.

Under Sanjay Gadhvi’s direction and Yash Raj Films’ production, the movie Dhoom became so popular that it spawned two additional series: Dhoom 2 and Dhoom 3. Each sequel continued to expand on the foundation laid by the original. Released in 2006, Dhoom 2 starred Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in a stylish heist film that unfolded across multiple international settings. Roshan portrayed a skilled thief, participating in high-risk chases and devising intricate plans, elevating the story’s complexity and mystery.

2013’s Dhoom 3 featured Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif as the main characters, with Khan portraying a pair of acrobats who masterminded a chain of thrilling heists in Chicago. With each episode, the action and entertainment were consistently raised, cementing the series as a significant part of Bollywood lore.

As for Dhoom 4, there’s been a lot of talk and speculation, but no formal statements from the production team as of now.
