Yami Gautam recently discussed the impactful and widely circulated speech on women’s empowerment featured in her Netflix film, Dhoom Dhaam, where she co-stars with Pratik Gandhi. In this movie, she powerfully delivers the speech in a single take. Responding to this, she stated, “I believe my best work is usually in the initial two takes, particularly the first one, especially when the performance truly stems from your emotions.
Through a heartfelt address in her role as Koyel, Yami Gautam illuminates the daily hardships faced by many women, such as continuous harassment, unwanted attention, societal demands for marriage, and pressures related to childbearing.
In her speech, she offers insight into the pressures that make women tolerate discomfort from cumbersome and confining garments, even during intense heat, due to societal norms. Furthermore, her persona bravely tackles additional uncomfortable topics, such as unwanted explicit images that certain men share without consent.
Additionally, she acknowledged the tough truth that a mother of a daughter frequently encounters extra pressure to produce more offspring.
In conversation with News18, Yami shared that she doesn’t usually prepare for scenes thinking they’ll need numerous takes or shots. Instead, she stressed the importance of nailing it on the first attempt, as she feels that the first take often captures the most genuine and raw emotions.
Instead of gradually building up to the desired emotion, she finds that her most authentic and moving performances tend to be captured during the initial two attempts, with the first take being particularly effective, especially when the emotions portrayed are sincere and deeply felt.
Yami went on to explain that several people, particularly women, could identify with certain aspects of the monologue – not necessarily the entire discourse, but perhaps a few sentences here and there. She emphasized the importance of managing all those emotions while taking different viewpoints into account and using them to create a powerful, unified performance.
Additionally, Yami mentioned an instance where Pratik Gandhi’s authentic reaction sparked a minor adjustment. She disclosed that this spontaneous response organically led to the inclusion of an extra line not initially written in the script—a question that roughly translates to “What are you looking here and there for?
On Valentine’s Day, 2025, I had the pleasure of witnessing the premiere of Dhoom Dhaam on Netflix. This film garnered praise from fans and critics alike, a testament to its quality. As a dedicated follower, I am excited that Yami’s husband, Aditya Dhar, played a significant role in bringing this movie to life as the director.
