Did you know Kareena Kapoor and Diljit Dosanjh never sat on the sets of Udta Punjab? Director Abhishek Chaubey shares surprising reason

As a film enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of Bollywood over the years, I must say that my admiration for Abhishek Chaubey, the director of ‘Udta Punjab,’ has grown exponentially after reading about his experiences working with Kareena Kapoor and Diljit Dosanjh.

In a world where stardom often overshadows the essence of teamwork and dedication, it’s refreshing to hear about actors like Kareena and Diljit who put their professional commitment above all else. Their willingness to stand and work hard on set instead of taking breaks or relaxing shows a level of passion that is truly inspiring.

Kareena Kapoor’s adaptability, as described by Chaubey, is particularly impressive given her pedigree in the industry. Her ability to mold herself according to the demands of various roles is nothing short of remarkable. I can only imagine what it must be like to work with such a versatile actress who effortlessly transitions between genres.

The casting of Diljit Dosanjh, despite not fitting the physical description they had in mind, proved to be a masterstroke. His talent as an actor and his authenticity as a Sardar added depth and realism to the character he played. It just goes to show that sometimes, deviating from our initial plans can lead to unexpected but brilliant outcomes.

In the end, I’d like to add a little humor to lighten things up – I guess the saying “Don’t judge a book by its cover” applies even when casting actors for roles! After all, who would have thought that a tall, deep-voiced Punjabi man would be replaced by a shorter, more refined Punjabi singer? Life is full of surprises, and ‘Udta Punjab’ is just one example of how these unexpected turns can lead to greatness.

2016 saw the release of Udta Punjab, a highly discussed and widely praised movie. Its director, Abhishek Chaubey, has recently reminisced about his time collaborating with Kareena Kapoor and Diljit Dosanjh during its production. He shared that Kareena Kapoor consistently prioritized her work over her fame while on set, as she and co-star Diljit Dosanjh were both dedicated to putting in the hard work for the film.

In an interview with Mashable India, Abhishek Chaubey reminisced about working with Kareena Kapoor and Diljit Dosanjh during the making of Udta Punjab. He shared several engaging stories from that time. According to him, unlike many other actors who might retreat to their trailers or take a break after their scenes, both Kareena and Diljit were hands-on with the film’s production.

In simple terms, “They (Kareena and Diljit) seemed to be my constant companions, tagging along wherever I went. Despite Kareena being a renowned star, she often stayed behind me, watching. Similarly, Diljit never took a seat when asked, even in the most diverse shooting locations. Instead, they chose to stand by and actively participate,” he clarified.

Chaubey commended the actress who portrayed the character in Crew for seamlessly adapting to her role. He noted that this actress is a veteran in Bollywood, hailing from the original Kapoor family in the industry. This meant that she had an innate sense of the type of movie she was working on and how to deliver a convincing performance. As an example, he pointed out that whether it’s a light-hearted comedy directed by David Dhawan or an intense drama, she knows exactly how to shape herself accordingly.

Intriguingly, Kareena took on the role of Dr. Preet in the film, partnering with the actor who portrayed Amar Singh Chamika, a cop in the movie, to combat drug abuse within the state. Notably, the director stated that Kareena refused to use makeup to embody the authenticity demanded for her part. At times, Abhishek had to step in and ask her to apply a minimal amount of makeup instead.

The filmmaker also emphasized the selection process for the character of Sartaj, portrayed by Diljit Dosanjh. He pointed out that they initially intended to choose a tall Punjabi man with a deep voice for this role, but Diljit was not as physically described. However, Chaubey stated, “We chose Diljit because he’s an exceptional actor and truly embodies the character of a Sardar, even though he didn’t exactly fit our initial physical image.

If you haven’t heard yet, the movie Udta Punjab came out in 2016. This movie had a talented group of actors like Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor, and Diljit Dosanjh.
