In a chat with RavanSpeaks, Nawazuddin Siddiqui shared that his character in Badlapur was not fully developed when he joined the project. The script merely hinted at two contrasting journeys: one of a man turning from good to bad and the other of a bad man finding some goodness.

With such limited information, Nawaz brought life to one of the most complex and chilling characters in the film. He credited director Sriram Raghavan for this creative freedom, describing him as someone who constantly revised his work and came up with fresh ideas. Nawaz praised Raghavan’s unpredictability and dedication, stating that he always kept the team inspired.

Additionally, Nawaz pointed out the strong team dynamics as a key factor in the film’s success. Producer Dinesh Vijan wasn’t just financing the project; he was emotionally invested and daring in his presentation of the movie. From the director to the producer to the entire crew, everyone gave their best creatively, which was evident on screen.

Interestingly, Sriram Raghavan originally intended to cast Nawaz with the late Irrfan Khan. However, after some changes and suggestions from Vijan, Varun Dhawan ended up playing the role, surprising many with his powerful transformation.

In various roles, Nawazuddin Siddiqui consistently demonstrates his talent and versatility. In 2024, he appeared in the mystery film “Rautu Ka Raaz,” playing Inspector Deepak Singh Negi – a character grappling with PTSD as he untangles a perplexing case set amidst a scenic hill station.

A year later, in 2025, Siddiqui stepped into the lead character in “Costao,” portraying a customs officer from the ’90s who relinquishes everything to dismantle a significant gold smuggling ring in Goa.
