Did you know Raveena Tandon once opted out of a Shah Rukh Khan film due to ‘uncomfortable and objectifying’ costume?

As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for the rich tapestry of Bollywood, I must commend Raveena Tandon for her unwavering commitment to her personal comfort and dignity. Her decision to decline a film with Shah Rukh Khan, despite their successful collaborations in the past, speaks volumes about her character.

More recently, Raveena Tandon revealed that she turned down a movie featuring Shah Rukh Khan because of issues with her costumes. Although she didn’t specify the title or additional information, she explained that the outfits were distressing as they seemed overly objectifying and not suitable for her comfort level. In her own words, “The garments weren’t something I would feel at ease wearing, and I believed they were somewhat demeaning.”

Raveena Tandon disclosed that she was almost set to star alongside Shah Rukh Khan in a movie, but she decided against it due to issues with the costumes. In an interview with Filmfare, she explained, “The costumes were not suitable for me and I believed they were excessively objectifying,” which significantly influenced her choice to withdraw from the production.

When I learned that Raveena Tandon was stepping away from our film, she shared her reasons for finding the costumes peculiar. She reminisced about my reaction, which was one of surprise as I inquired about her sudden refusal. She disclosed that I exclaimed, “Are you out of your mind? Why are you saying no all of a sudden?” given our history together on projects like Jaadu and Zamaana Deewana, and the rapport we had built.

Apart from praising Shah Rukh Khan as one of the funniest, kindest, and most courteous co-stars she’s collaborated with, Raveena shared that the costumes left her feeling uneasy and self-conscious.

In the past, Raveena Tandon revealed that the role in Darr was initially given to her before it ended up being Juhi Chawla’s. She shared this during an interview with Mirchi Plus and explained that one project had to be scrapped due to the director’s demise. Furthermore, she mentioned that she declined another film because of her displeasure with the costume design. Moreover, she highlighted that the production of Zamana Deewana also faced some delays.

For the unversed, Raveena Tandon and Shah Rukh Khan collaborated on the 1995 film Zamana Deewana.

In her professional life, Raveena Tandon’s latest projects are Patna Shukla, Ghudchadi, and Karmma Calling. Her upcoming movie, “Welcome to the Jungle,” boasts a stellar cast including Akshay Kumar, Disha Patani, Jacqueline Fernandez, Suniel Shetty, Arshad Warsi, Paresh Rawal, Shreyas Talpade, and Lara Dutta. As the third installment of the well-loved Welcome series, this film is anticipated to premiere in cinemas during the winter holidays of 2024.

In the year 2023, Shah Rukh Khan made a comeback with Pathaan, which was later followed by the box office sensation Jawan. As the year drew to a close, he worked on Dunki under the direction of Rajkumar Hirani. Upcoming for him is King, a gangster movie where his daughter Suhana Khan will also star.
