As an ardent fan of the Bollywood industry, I have been fortunate enough to witness the exceptional journey of one of our most beloved stars, Salman Khan. However, it is not just his blockbuster movies that make him stand out; it’s his remarkable humanitarian deeds and unwavering commitment to social causes that truly sets him apart.
Salman Khan is a highly accomplished actor in Hindi cinema, whose contributions and kindness off-screen make him a source of pride for the industry. For example, he donated his bone marrow to a young girl and played an HIV patient in the movie Phir Milenge in 2004 for just Re 1, despite everyone else in Bollywood refusing the role. This demonstrates his commitment to medical awareness, both on-screen and off-.
Shailendra Singh posted a video on Instagram, where he shared an interesting fact about Salman Khan’s role in Phir Milenge. He mentioned that unlike many actors, Salman didn’t ask for a big fee to be part of the film. Instead, he charged only a single rupee! In the movie’s ending, his character tragically loses his life. The producer also commended Salman Khan for using Phir Milenge as a platform to educate Indian audiences, particularly the youth, about AIDS awareness in 2004.
In those days and even now, Salman Khan was the most prominent youth icon in Bollywood. Yet, it’s hard to imagine persuading such a action-packed star as Salman Khan, who is often compared to Rambo, Terminator, and Superman of India, to take on a movie centered around the cause of AIDS.” Singh comments.
In relation to the plot of Phir Milenge, the producer revealed that the main character was intended to contract HIV and ultimately succumb to the disease. Numerous actors declined the role before Salman eventually took on the project.
On the day when the entire Bollywood community rejected my idea, it was Salman Khan I reached out to. Reflecting on the situation now, I remember his character’s demise in the film was a concern for his fans. Yet, Salman and the team managed to convey the message effectively throughout our nation.
“Salman Khan has a huge heart…Phir milenge bhai,” read the caption.
Under the guidance of multitalented director Revathi, the movie Phir Milenge featured Salman Khan, Shilpa Shetty, and Abhishek Bachchan. This production was influenced by the 1993 Hollywood film, Philadelphia. Currently, Salman Khan has another role on his list, Sikandar.
