Did you know Shah Rukh Khan signed Baazigar after getting clearance from Deepak Tijori?

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for the nuances of Bollywood, I find it fascinating to delve into the lives and careers of industry veterans like Deepak Tijori. His experiences offer an intriguing glimpse into the complex dynamics that often underlie the success stories we see on screen.

Deepak Tijori played a substantial role in Bollywood, starring in films like Aashiqui, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Anjaam, and Khiladi. As a director now, his latest work is Tipppsy. Lately, Tijori discussed his connection with Shah Rukh Khan, disclosing that Khan didn’t agree to Baazigar until Tijori granted him approval. He explained, “We had an agreement that he wouldn’t accept their offer for Baazigar until they clarified things with me first. Once that happened, I gave Shah Rukh the green light, which he followed up on afterwards. Prior to that, he didn’t give them the go-ahead.”

In a chat with the Indian Express, Deepak Tijori spoke about his enduring friendship with Shah Rukh Khan and disclosed some fascinating aspects of their professional dynamics. Tijori divulged that it was only after he agreed to the role, that Shah Rukh consented to being in Baazigar with him.

Based on what Tijori shared, they often spent time together, both socially and privately during their close friendship. One memory Tijori has is visiting Khan’s home where he found a VHS tape of A Kiss Before Dying. This was intriguing because Tijori was already discussing the film with its directors, so finding it at Khan’s seemed unusual. Shah Rukh mentioned offhandedly that the directors had given him the movie for the main role, but he wouldn’t make a commitment until he received Tijori’s approval first.

Tijori made it clear that Shah Rukh wouldn’t officially join Baazigar until Tijori had given his approval first. Once Tijori gave the go-ahead, Shah Rukh took on the role. Tijori highlighted that their partnership stayed amicable, and Shah Rukh’s casting was essentially determined by destiny.

Deepak Tijori shared that he didn’t make the cut during the initial auditions for Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, but Aamir Khan later vouched for him to the film’s director, Mansoor Khan. Reminiscing about the experience, Tijori said that even though he was turned down during the audition phase, Aamir strongly supported his casting, which eventually resulted in him getting the role.

Tijori had been filled with disappointment when he received the call for a second chance following his initial refusal. He was eagerly building his career after wrapping up Aashiqui and was engaged in various other tasks. When Mahesh Bhatt requested a quick chat at his residence, Tijori was taken aback to learn that he must meet Mansoor Khan. Bhatt persisted, referencing Aamir Khan’s endorsement, despite Tijori’s concerns stemming from his past rejection.

While shooting for Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Tijori initially lacked readiness and was not in peak physical condition, a fact noticeable in his early scenes. This raised concerns among Aamir and Mansoor about his preparedness. However, it turned out that Tijori had put in rigorous training to embody the character of Shekhar Malhotra. Looking back on his dedication, he felt content that his hard work bore fruit, as his portrayal still strikes a chord even after several decades.

The film “Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar,” helmed by Mansoor Khan, showcased actors like Ayesha Jhulka, Pooja Bedi, in addition to Aamir and Deepak.
