As a dedicated follower who has witnessed the remarkable journey of Bollywood’s King Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, it is fascinating to delve into the untold stories behind his films, such as Baadshah. The revelation about Karisma Kapoor initially being considered for Twinkle Khanna’s role adds an intriguing twist to the tale of this action-comedy film that marked its 25th anniversary recently.
Shah Rukh Khan faced his share of hardships before ascending as the beloved “King Khan” of Bollywood. He initially started with a TV show and took on minor and supporting roles, eventually landing his first movie, Deewana, in 1992. Notably, his extensive film career includes the 1999 action-comedy Baadshah, where Twinkle Khanna was cast opposite him. However, producer Ratan Jain disclosed that originally, Karisma Kapoor had been chosen for the female lead role in the movie.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Ratan Jain shared some interesting trivia about the film Baadshah, which celebrated its 25th anniversary. He mentioned that initially, Karisma Kapoor was thought to be perfect for the role of Twinkle Khanna. However, due to unspecified reasons, she wasn’t able to join the project. After considering other options, they eventually cast Twinkle Khanna for the part.
In simpler terms, Jain pointed out that earlier, their movie-makers didn’t have access to visual effects (VFX) technology, but could only add a few limited effects to scenes. They weren’t completely satisfied with these effects, and due to technological constraints, they had to make do with what was available. Surprisingly, the audience’s reaction to the film exceeded their expectations.
Regarding Shah Rukh Khan’s fame during that period, Ratan Jain remarked that his fanbase was rapidly growing. The public has always adored him and his films. In truth, Baadshah holds a special place in the actor’s heart as well. During their conversation, Ratan Jain reminisced about how Khan often spoke fondly of the old movie. He further added that it resonated strongly on TV, particularly with children. “It’s incredibly popular among them,” he mentioned. In the same discussion, the producer also shared that they had additional plans for the movie. Surprisingly, the script was reworked and the second half of the film took a more serious turn. As he explained, the first half was quite comedic, but the second half became more somber.

Intriguingly, it also features Suhana Khan, the talented actress from Archie Comics.
