Did you know Shah Rukh Khan's interview was once rejected by a film magazine because they weren't convinced he was 'star'?

As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for the journeys of successful individuals, I find Shah Rukh Khan’s story to be incredibly inspiring. His early rejection from a film magazine, despite his brilliance and wit, is a powerful reminder that even the most talented among us face setbacks in our careers.

Shah Rukh Khan made his acting debut in films after gaining experience on TV shows such as Fauji, Circus, and Dil Dariya during the 1980s. Notably, he began his film career with Deewana in 1992. Since then, SRK has risen to superstardom in the Hindi cinema industry, remaining a dominant figure in Bollywood.

During his initial career in showbiz, there was a time when a film magazine rejected him.

Shah Rukh Khan was rejected for not being ‘cool’, reveals screenwriter Mushtaq Sheikh

In a recent chat on Cyrus Broacha’s podcast, Cyrus Says, screenwriter Mushtaq Sheikh shared an anecdote about meeting Shah Rukh Khan during an interview for a film magazine when he was still a freelance journalist.

Mushtaq explained, “My editor doesn’t seem impressed when I present him with that interview since he hasn’t made it big in films, despite his popularity on TV.”

SRK was ‘brilliant and witty’ like he is today

Mushtaq Sheikh expressed his appreciation for Shah Rukh Khan’s engaging article and commended the superstar for being just as “shining, intelligent, and quick-witted” as ever.

The ex-journalist described Shah Rukh as having an engaging and witty sense of humor, along with a distinctive viewpoint regarding the movie business.

King Khan gave a “rat’s ass to anyone” that time, Mushtaq remembered.

Here’s how SRK’s interview got published in the magazine

Mushtaq Sheikh went on to share that he conducted interviews with sixteen individuals named “Khan” in order to create SRK’s biography, but unfortunately, “not a single one” of them is still active in the film industry now.

Shah Rukh Khan’s work front

In the 1990s, following his first appearance in Bollywood with Dil Aashiqui (another name for Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge), Shah Rukh Khan ventured into playing villainous parts in movies such as Darr, Anjaam, and Baazigar. Some of his most celebrated films are Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Chak De! India, Devdas, Chalte Chalte, Baadshah, Yes Boss and numerous others.

After the disappointing performance of his 2018 film “Zero” at the box office, Shah Rukh Khan took a significant break from acting. However, he returned to the silver screen with director Siddharth Anand’s movie “Pathaan,” which was released in 2023. Following that, he went on to act in other films such as “Jawan” and “Dunki.”

SRK will now be seen in full-fledged actioner, King, co-starring his daughter, actress Suhana Khan.
