Did you know Stree 2 actor Rajkummar Rao was paid just THIS amount for his debut film Love Sex Aur Dhokha? says 'work was important'

As an ardent fan, I can’t help but marvel at Rajkummar Rao’s journey from earning Rs 11,000 for his debut to shoulder-carrying movies worth hundreds of crores today. It’s a tale as intriguing as one of the characters he plays so convincingly on screen.

Rajkummar Rao made his debut with Dibakar Banerjee’s 2010 film Love Sex Aur Dhokha. Even though the actor is now shouldering movies worth hundreds of crores, you’ll be shocked to know that he earned only Rs 11,000 for his first big-screen outing. Read on to learn this intriguing story that the Stree 2 actor shared in an interview with Raj Shamani.

For approximately a year after relocating to Mumbai, Rao tirelessly searched for acting roles but couldn’t find any suitable opportunities. Eventually, he stumbled upon a casting call for LSD (possibly the movie “Love Sex Aur Dhokha”) and hurriedly made his way to Dibakar’s office. However, he was directed to meet the casting director named Atul Mongia instead. After some persistence, Rajkummar was able to get in touch with Atul and was asked to submit his photographs. The 39-year-old kept sending his pictures until Atul eventually invited him for an audition.

Rajkummar Rao revealed an amusing story about his first audition. He recounted wearing unusual outfits, as instructed. When asked about his clothing, he replied that he had no other options. Feeling the director might not approve, he joked to himself, “I’m doomed, he doesn’t like it.” Surprisingly, he went ahead with the audition and later received a call saying Banerjee appreciated his performance.

Initially, there was a condition presented to Raj that required him to slim down his face, which he accepted without hesitation. In just a week’s time, he managed to shed considerable weight by running extensively. Following this, he returned for multiple rounds of auditions, and in the end, it came down to two contenders. Eventually, he received the long-awaited call confirming that he had secured the role, marking what he felt was his beginning.

“Indeed, I didn’t earn anything from that project. My initial payment for the first film was ₹11,000. However, the monetary aspect wasn’t the primary reason; the essence of the work held more significance for me,” Rao explained.

Under the production of ALT Entertainment, spearheaded by Ekta Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, and Priya Sreedharan, the movie titled “Love Sex Aur Dhokha” featured an ensemble cast that included Anshuman Jha, Nushrratt Bharuccha, Neha Chauhan, Amit Sial, Herry Tangri, and Ashish Sharma among others. In 2024, a sequel to the film was released, but unfortunately, it failed to perform well at the box office.
