At a Manhattan court hearing on Tuesday, federal prosecutors handling Sean “Diddy” Combs’s racketeering and sex trafficking trial, as well as his defense team of prominent lawyers, faced criticism from Judge Arun Subramanian. This was after he became angry when evidence that was supposed to remain confidential leaked to the tabloid media. As a result, the judge launched an investigation into the matter.
After a questioning session with the attorneys, Subramanian stated, “It appears someone is not telling the truth here.” The judge had determined earlier that one or more individuals in the courtroom disregarded the court’s instructions. He emphasized that he asked the jurors to maintain their focus on Combs’ case solely based on the facts and evidence presented.
Subramanian assured that the commitment would be upheld, and he would promptly examine and impose penalties for any instances of violation that occurred.
The evidence under scrutiny was not brought up during the court proceedings. However, media outlets like USA Today reported that it concerned a juror and surfaced in sensational news publications such as TMZ and The Daily Mail.
Maurene Comey and Marc Agnifilo, the lead prosecutor and defense team leader respectively, both asserted that neither of their teams disclosed any information to the media. However, Subramanian, who oversees the case, made it clear that as heads of their legal squads, they would each face personal accountability if a member from either side was found guilty of leaking the confidential details. He further warned that breaching a sealing order could lead to charges for civil or criminal contempt.
Subramanian stated that both Ms. Comey and Mr. Agnifilo are individually accountable for the actions of their respective teams and clients. He made it clear that there’s no more shifting blame; each one has to take responsibility for any consequences that may arise. If anything goes wrong, it will be the lead counsel who bears the responsibility.
During the trial, after numerous weeks of testimonies about the lavish, drug-fueled hotel suite parties allegedly organized by Combs, which included prolonged sexual encounters, the jurors finally got a firsthand look. A total of 18 minutes of footage showing Combs’ ex, Cassie Ventura, with male escorts was presented; now it’s up to the jury of 12 men and women to decide whether the video they watched today is evidence of sex trafficking, as the prosecution suggests, or if it represents an intimate moment from Combs’ personal life, as the defense contends.
