After P. Diddy’s arrest in September, he’s been kept in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center. At 55 years old (Sean Combs being his real name), he’s dealing with numerous federal charges and additional lawsuits his legal team is trying to handle. One of these cases was brought by music producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, who claims Diddy sexually harassed him during their past collaboration. However, prior to his trial, Combs has managed to secure a favorable outcome in this lawsuit.
In Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones’ lawsuit, several individuals were named as defendants, such as Kristina Khorram (who has previously spoken out), a former executive at Sean Combs’ company; Ethiopia Habtemariam, a previous CEO of Motown Records; Sir Lucian Grainge, the current CEO of Universal Music Group; and Justin Combs, Sean Combs’ adult son. Jones alleges that during his work on Combs’ love album between September 2022 and November 2023, he was subjected to drug use, sexual harassment, and threats. Specifically, Jones accused Combs of sexually assaulting him.
It appears that Judge J. Paul Oetken has ruled against Lil Rod’s accusations made towards Diddy. This judgment was reported by People magazine, who obtained the relevant legal documents. The judge dismissed Rod’s RICO claim because he failed to prove a connection between Diddy and the suspected racketeering activities of his business. Additionally, Rod’s failure to pay for his work on the album contributed to this decision. In part, Judge Oetken wrote:
The Court couldn’t find any causal connection between the Defendants’ alleged activities in sex, drugs, and gun trafficking and their ability to fulfill their recording contract with Jones. In other words, the Defendants’ criminal activities did not inherently or logically prevent them from meeting their obligations under the contract.

In simpler terms, Judge Oetken threw out Rodney Jones’ claims against Combs Global under the Trafficking Victims Protection Act and his emotional distress allegations against P. Diddy because Jones didn’t provide enough evidence to support these claims. Additionally, Jones’ contract breach claims were removed from the case due to New York law, which states that contracts that can’t be completed within a year are only valid if they’re in writing.
Despite being dismissed on some points, several significant claims against Sean Combs persist. For instance, Lil Rod’s claim of a TVPA violation against Combs and Kristina Khorram is still valid due to the producer’s lawsuit outlining multiple alleged incidents. Similarly, sexual assault charges against Combs have not been discarded, as they were deemed “plausible.” Additionally, the premises liability claim, which alleges that Rod was sexually assaulted repeatedly on Combs’ properties, continues to stand as Combs is considered to have both possession and control over these premises.
Last autumn, Puff Daddy was arrested following searches at his U.S. residences, during which authorities seized documents, electronic equipment, and various bottles of lubricant. Since then, he has been indicted for offenses including sex trafficking, facilitating prostitution, arson, and racketeering. Despite denying any wrongdoing, Diddy will stay in custody, sharing a cell with Luigi Mangione and others, until his trial commences on May 5th.
