Diljit Dosanjh’s first film director Guddu Dhanoa hints at rift with singer-actor; refuses to talk about star he launched

Film producer Guddu Dhanoa recently expressed his thoughts about the transformation young talents undergo when they achieve stardom, using Diljit Dosanjh as an example. Known for movies like Big Brother, Salakheen, and Bicchhoo, Dhanoa finds it hard to understand how people alter after experiencing fame. It was actually Dhanoa who introduced Dosanjh’s talent on the big screen through The Lion of Punjab.

Speaking with Friday Talkies, when I was asked about the singer-actor, Dosanjh, I steered the chat towards more uplifting topics, expressing, “Instead, let’s delve into the lives of those who shine positively, those who are authentic, kind, and truly inspiring.” My words subtly suggested a certain friction between us, but left room for multiple interpretations in our ongoing conversation.

Later, he opened up about a broader observation on how some artists in the entertainment world transform with fame. He recounted a specific incident involving singer Sunidhi Chauhan. In his opinion, during the filming of Bicchhoo, a young Chauhan astounded him with her exceptional vocal skills. When they crossed paths again on set, she humbly paid respect to him by touching his feet. He concluded by mentioning that as time goes by, such heartwarming moments can often be forgotten. Furthermore, he expressed disappointment that his recent efforts to reconnect with her have been met with no response.

Dhanoa stated, “At first, you might show great respect by touching their feet, hugging them, addressing them as ‘godfather’ or even ‘god’, and boasting a lot. But as time goes by, everyone seems to change.

Regardless of his insights into the evolving behavior of celebrities, Dhanoa was swift to emphasize that not every individual in the entertainment world treads the same path. He admired figures such as Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Vidya Balan, Akshay Kumar, and Sunny Deol for maintaining their humility, warmth, and sincerity even with their accomplishments.

In 2011, The Lion of Punjab was the first film for director Dhanoa in Punjabi cinema and marked Diljit Dosanjh’s debut as a leading actor. Unfortunately, the movie didn’t make much of an impression at the box office. However, one song from it, Lak 28 Kudi Da, gained immense popularity. Over time, Dosanjh has established his own unique career in the entertainment industry and garnered both national and international acclaim.

In addition to the main character, The Lion of Punjab featured actress Pooja Tandon, comedian Gurpreet Ghuggi, and actor Vindu Dara Singh. This production was a reinterpretation of the 2003 Tamil movie named Dhool.

In the future, Dhanoa intends to collaborate with Anupam Kher and Dimple Kapadia on a web series. Additionally, he has shared that he’s currently involved in a project called Deewana 2.
