In a recent interview, the esteemed actress Dimple Kapadia expressed heartfelt gratitude towards her divine blessings that provided numerous chances at the start of her career. She reminisced about her journey in the film industry, from sharing the screen with Rishi Kapoor in Raj Kapoor’s Bobby to her union with Rajesh Khanna, their high-profile split, and her performance in Christopher Nolan’s Tenet. Dimple acknowledged that these extraordinary experiences could have left her feeling overly arrogant without the guiding hand of God.
Recently, as I shared with Vogue India, I’ve come to realize that life’s blessings have been generously poured upon me since my early days. The heights of success I’ve scaled are ones that many would eagerly strive for, given the chance.
She remarked, “The one thing he didn’t provide was intelligence. Perhaps he believed, ‘This woman already has everything. She might become overconfident if she were also smart.’ My life has always been grand—my initial film with Raj Kapoor, my marriage to Rajesh Khanna, my venture into Hollywood with Christopher Nolan. Had he not looked after me, I would have certainly turned out quite conceited.
At the tender age of 16, Dimple launched her career alongside Bobby and tied the knot with the reigning superstar of the time, Rajesh Khanna, whom she later married.
Instead of pursuing her acting career, Dimple decided to focus on her marriage instead. As a result of this decision, they welcomed two beautiful daughters into their family: Twinkle Khanna and Rinki Khanna.
Over time, I found myself growing more and more captivated by their bond, yet sadly, it started crumbling bit by bit until they parted ways. Remarkably, though they went their separate paths, they chose not to legally sever ties through a divorce.
At a 2018 gathering, Dimple Kapadia looked back on her split with Rajesh Khanna, acknowledging that Twinkle showed great maturity in dealing with the situation. More recently, in a video posted by Brut India on Instagram, when asked who among her family members took on a motherly role, Dimple pointed to Twinkle.
Speaking about Twinkle’s nurturing traits, I found myself sharing an insightful story about how she navigated through her parents’ separation – a testament to her resilience and maturity.
In simpler terms, Dimple characterized Twinkle as a remarkably mature child, reminiscing that she was approximately seven or eight at the time of their separation. Dimple highly commended Twinkle for her devotion to her care and well-being.
