In the world of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and the broader Spider-Verse series, it was established that there are countless parallel universes, each with their unique set of events. Unfortunately, the third movie in this trilogy, which began with 2018’s Into the Spider-Verse, will not be making its way to theaters as initially planned. The release date for the film, originally slated for early 2024, has been pushed back indefinitely by Sony. Recently, one of the movie’s stars provided a disappointing update on its current status.
In an interview with Decider to publicize his new film, “Unstoppable”, Jharrel Jerome provided a less than encouraging update about the production of “Beyond the Spider-Verse”. The actor who portrays the Earth-42 version of Miles Morales (the villain in layman’s terms) was asked if he had started recording his lines for the movie. He replied, “No, I wish it were so,” expressing his honest feelings. Jerome explained that pre-production is still ongoing for the third installment of the trilogy, assuring fans that the wait will be worth it. He added, “Rest assured, it’s going to be great.
“We haven’t started up yet. A lot of things being figured out, but good things.”
Fans of Spider-Verse have been anxiously waiting for updates on the movie’s release since its delay in 2024. The most exciting development for fans before the holidays was the introduction of a new LEGO set. Over the past year, there have been rumors that the film is being produced, halted, and even more unsettlingly, undergoing a complete rewrite at Sony. However, it’s not all doom and gloom, as there’s also some good news.
‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ Has Finally Found Its Directors
As fans eagerly anticipate the release of “Beyond the Spider-Verse”, they have received some positive news recently. Specifically, it has been announced that the movie’s directors for December 2024 have been found. Bob Persischetti and Justin K. Thompson will be leading the third film in the trilogy.
Both Persichetti and Thompson have been deeply involved with the Spider-Verse franchise, having served in various roles. Persichetti, along with Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman, co-directed “Into the Spider-Verse” and was an executive producer for its sequel, “Across the Spider-Verse”. Simultaneously, Thompson co-directed “Across the Spider-Verse” with Joaquim Dos Santos and Kemp Powers, and served as a production designer on “Into the Spider-Verse”. Upon their appointment, they expressed their excitement in a statement.
It’s an immense honor for us to be involved in Miles’ story since its inception, and shaping the final chapter of his tale is incredibly thrilling. The passion and dedication put into each moment of this project has been truly awe-inspiring. We believe we’ve created a highly fulfilling ending, and we eagerly anticipate fans enjoying it – we’re giving our all!
In the movie “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” we were left hanging with a significant plot twist as Miles Morales found himself trapped on Earth-42 alongside his villainous counterpart. At the same time, Gwen Stacy was assembling a group of their former allies, along with some new recruits, to save Miles. As for the next installment, “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,” there’s currently no announced release date or timeframe.
