As a seasoned Disney-goer who’s braved the Florida heat, humidity, and occasional hurricanes, I must say that visiting Disney World during a storm has its unique perks. The five-minute wait for Rise of the Resistance is enough to make me consider donning my rain boots and umbrella next time Hurricane Helene swings by!
As a gamer, let me tell you this: Nothing ruins a day at Disney World more than standing in long queues and getting drenched in bad weather. But here’s the silver lining – it’s quite rare to experience both at the same time. In fact, unfavorable weather usually shortens the lines, even at Disney World! So, if you’re lucky enough to get really bad weather, you might just find yourself whisked through the attractions in no time!
Though Hurricane Helene primarily affected areas west of Orlando, Central Florida experienced substantial rainfall on the previous day due to the hurricane’s passage. This potentially disrupted many people’s vacations at Disney World, but for those who were prepared to endure the storm, the advantage was remarkably short queues. A post, since removed, shared by WGN’s Marcus Leshock, indicated that Rise of the Resistance, typically the longest queue in all of Disney World, had a waiting time of merely five minutes at one point yesterday.
Visiting Disney World During A Storm Has Its Benefits
Without a doubt, experiencing a hurricane at Disney World isn’t my preferred way to spend time, but a five-minute wait for Rise of the Resistance makes it worthwhile. Such short lines are unusual, even during poor weather conditions. It’s safe to assume that most other attractions were essentially walk-ons under these circumstances.
Though it might seem irrational to visit Disney World during a storm for some, for many others, there’s hardly any other option due to the extensive planning and high costs associated with Disney World vacations. Since the expenses involved are considerable, refunds are seldom offered, especially once the trip has commenced. Spending money on a rainy day at Disney World is unpleasant, but so is losing money without a return.
Florida experiences a considerable amount of rainfall, making it challenging to stay dry during a theme park vacation, even when the weather is unusually poor. Personally, I’ve encountered rain at Universal Orlando and, admittedly, my lack of preparation made the experience less enjoyable. However, with the right planning, the rain isn’t always such a downer. Granted, as some videos depict, this time the weather was particularly severe.
It’s not surprising that street is empty. Who wants to be out in that?
Disney World Did Close Locations And Cancel Attraction
Although the hurricane shortened attraction queues significantly, those who braved the rain didn’t get the full Disney World experience due to closures.
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park and mini-golf courses, along with certain exclusive backstage events at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, were temporarily shut down. However, these Animal Kingdom events were eventually re-scheduled. For the evening, Disney World decided to halt its fireworks display and other nighttime shows. Meanwhile, Universal closed Volcano Bay water park and suspended Halloween Horror Nights for the night.
As of now, the weather in Orlando is clear and Disney World is fully open for business.
