Disney+ Cancels Beloved MCU Show for Season 2, Actor Confirms

As a devoted admirer, I’ve got some disappointing news to share: One of the MCU’s leading actors has hinted that the show won’t get renewed by Marvel Studios. So far, only one live-action MCU series, Loki, has been given the green light for a second season on Disney+. Shows like Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and She-Hulk are all anxiously waiting for the go-ahead for Season 2. It’s uncertain if this decision has anything to do with these shows or is part of a broader plan at Marvel Studios. However, it’s been tough for fans like me who have been eagerly anticipating a reunion with our beloved heroes, some of whom we haven’t heard from in years.

regretfully, it was disclosed by Aramis Knight, a prominent character in Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), that his TV show won’t be renewed for a second season, as far as he is concerned. In the highly praised Ms. Marvel series on Disney+, Knight played Kareem/Red Dagger; unfortunately, similar to many MCU shows, an announcement for a second season for this superhero streaming program has yet to materialize.

At the red carpet event for Karate Kid: Legends in the bustling city of New York, I was approached by Screen Rant and asked about a potential second season of Ms. Marvel. With a thoughtful pause, I shared my feelings, saying, “I believe we might have to wait a bit longer for that story to continue.

After three years since its debut on Disney+, “Ms Marvel” continues to be the top-rated live-action TV show produced by Marvel Studios, with the exception of the exceptional first season of “X-Men ’97,” which outranks it on Rotten Tomatoes.

For some time now, discussions about a second season of the Iman Vellani-led streaming series have been circulating. However, no concrete details have been disclosed from these conversations (as far as we know publicly). The latest update on the project came in 2023 when directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah mentioned they were “waiting on The Marvels” movie. They added that this film would determine the next move in the series.

Despite nearly two years passing since those quotes, there’s been no public progress on another set of TV episodes centered around the teenage superhero. Yet, Vellani’s Kamala Khan hasn’t been left without a path in the MCU. She was recently seen in 2023’s “The Marvels,” which seems to hint at the potential for a Young Avengers project (something Marvel Studios continues to express interest in).

In the past few months, there have been discussions about the absence of second seasons for series like Ms. Marvel, with Marvel Studios executive Brad Winderbaum stating that creating shows centered around popular characters creates significant difficulties in producing subsequent seasons.

Working on series featuring big-name stars made it difficult to create successful follow-up seasons, as profit margins in television production tend to be slim.

The first season of “Ms. Marvel” aired on Disney+ from June 8th to July 13th, 2022. This series follows Iman Vellani’s character, Kamala Khan, who is an enthusiastic superhero fan. After obtaining some enchanted bracelets, she acquires the ability to control hard light, transforming her into the metahuman named Ms. Marvel.

Upon its debut, Ms. Marvel garnered acclaim from both fans and critics due to its captivating main character, emphasis on family dynamics, and distinctive aesthetic created by directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who were also behind the successful film Bad Boys For Life .

How Likely Is a Renewal for Every Marvel Show?

WandaVision

Although it appears extremely uncommon for a genuine WandaVision Season 2 to materialize, given that our main character is deceased within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the 2021 series on Disney+ has managed to persist nonetheless.

The captivating streaming show has given birth to its own offshoots, such as Agatha All Along and the upcoming series Vision Quest, while also setting up a potential future project for the Young Avengers by introducing Milly Maximoff.

This new version maintains the original’s meaning but uses simpler, more conversational language.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

The Disney+ series starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, titled “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” (TFATWS)), is unlikely to have a second season.

This version aims to maintain the original meaning while using more common, everyday language for easy readability.

In simpler terms, the main role of the spectacle adorned with stars and stripes was to introduce Mackie’s character, Sam Wilson, as the future Captain America. Having accomplished this, Sam has assumed the mantle of Cap and is expected to continue as a hero exclusively on the big screen. However, the director of the show still harbors hopes that it may return someday.

Loki

Among all Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) series on Disney+, only Tom Hiddleston’s Loki has been granted and is currently enjoying a second season. Although Season 2 appears to have concluded Loki’s narrative, transforming the trickster deity into the omniscient God of Stories, there remains a possibility that the show may return in some capacity, as suggested by Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios Head of Streaming.

It appears more reasonable that Loki’s tale will carry on through streaming platforms, as Tom Hiddleston’s character, the cunning and powerful trickster, has been officially confirmed to feature in the upcoming movie titled “Avengers: Doomsday.

What If…?

The animated Marvel Cinematic Universe series, titled “What If…?”, managed to span over three seasons on Disney+, wrapping up its run in December 2024.

Initially, the concept for the anthology series was intended to span over three seasons. Therefore, while a renewal may seem unlikely, it’s not entirely out of the question as there are still other realities to explore. Similar to WandaVision, What If…? is set to continue in another form with the mature-rated Marvel Zombies spin-off series due later this year.

Hawkeye

The future renewal possibilities for Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye series appear to be somewhat intricate. Initially, it seemed that Marvel was gearing up for Season 2 of the action-packed show on Disney+, with rumors suggesting that production on additional episodes had already begun.

Nevertheless, the progress made earlier came to a sudden standstill in May 2025, when Renner disclosed his decision to reject an offer for a return, stating he felt undercompensated by Disney and Marvel Studios. It’s uncertain whether this move signifies the project’s final demise or if it could adapt to continue without Renner.

Moon Knight

It’s widely believed that one of the most anticipated second seasons for a Marvel series is Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight, following its initial release which appeared to lay the groundwork for a sequel with intriguing post-credit hints as far back as 2022. Yet, just like other shows on this list, there has been limited information about a possible continuation.

In February, it was mentioned by the head of Marvel Television, Brad Winderbaum, that there were initial plans for a second season of Moon Knight. However, he stated that “plans have changed.” Some speculate that this could mean the character is being revamped for the big screen, possibly making an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday or a Midnight Suns movie. Others believe that the Moon Knight character may not resurface again in any future projects.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law

Despite whispers suggesting a second season for “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” no formal renewal announcement has been made yet. This superhero legal comedy, blending the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the tried-and-true TV format of shows like “NCIS” and “The Good Wife,” appears to be the most tailor-made for television among all Marvel Studios projects so far.

Despite Marvel’s changing focus and actress Tatiana Maslany hinting that there won’t be a second season, it appears that the hope for She-Hulk Season 2 among fans can only be seen as an aspiration at this point.

Secret Invasion

Although “Secret Invasion” portrayed an astonishing chapter in Marvel Comics’ history, it’s unlikely that fans will witness or revisit the tense TV series, given its status as a limited series (miniseries), which implies it would only air once.

As a passionate Marvel fan, I must admit that while I initially enjoyed this series, it unfortunately became one of the least favorably received Marvel shows so far. If there were plans for a second season, its poor audience response probably would’ve prevented it from being greenlit.

Echo

It’s unlikely that “Echo” will get a second season, not because of its critical reception, but due to poor viewership figures. The Alaqua Cox-led streaming show had some of the lowest viewership numbers for a Marvel Studios product on streaming platforms, which raised concerns about its future prospects right from the start.

Cinematographer Kira Kelly shared with TopMob in January 2024 that she was uncertain about the possibility of the series being renewed, expressing hope that Cox would have another opportunity to portray the main character, either in Season 2 or the related Daredevil Disney+ series.

X-Men ’97

There’s no need for fans to fret over the continuation of the animated X-Men ’97 series. It’s officially been given the go-ahead for a second season, and it’s projected to air in 2026.

If the latest news is accurate, there might be additional developments to come in the future. Star Lenore Zann mentioned during the Indiana Comic Convention that she’s preparing for season 3 recording, hinting that the production could have already been approved by Marvel Studios; they are merely waiting to make a public announcement about it.

Agatha All Along

In much the same way as WandaVision, Agatha All Along finds itself in a current state without an officially confirmed Season 2, yet its narrative is poised to continue and remain significant within the Marvel Cinematic Universe for many years to come, even though the creative team behind Agatha may be eager for a follow-up.

In the finale of the streaming series starring Kathryn Hahn, her character (the witch) aligned with Joe Locke’s Wiccan to pursue his younger brother. This suggests that Locke’s character might embark on a solo series or collaborate with additional members of the Young Avengers in future installments.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

Fans eager for additional episodes featuring the animated version of “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” are in luck! Not only has Season 2 been confirmed, but production on a third season is also underway. Learn more about this groundbreaking three-season plan for “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” here.

In the new year, you can expect the second season of everyone’s friendly neighborhood superhero, Spider-Man, to premiere. This is among the six Marvel Studios productions scheduled for release on Disney+ in 2026.

Daredevil: Born Again

Previously this year, Charlie Cox stepped back into his iconic role as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, known affectionately as Marvel’s Man Without Fear, in Daredevil: Born Again. For quite some time prior to the release of Born Again, the fate of Cox’s character was uncertain. However, with the arrival of this series, that uncertainty has been put to rest.

Production for Season 2 of “Born Again” is underway in New York City, with a tentative release date set for 2026. Furthermore, rumors suggest that there may be plans for a third season, titled “Daredevil: Born Again“, if Marvel Studios decides to continue the R-rated series.
