Disney Channel Cancels Another Beloved Animated Show Primos After Just One Season

Over the past few months, Disney Channel has decided to end several well-liked series, including one highly-acclaimed Marvel show. A fresh report indicates that Disney Channel has also cancelled another recently debuted animated program.

According to reports from TV Line (through Toon Hive), the Disney Channel has decided to discontinue the airing of “Primos”, an animated comedy series that follows the growing pains of its characters. Consequently, there won’t be a second season produced for this show.

Initially, the show titled “Primos” made its debut on Disney Channel on July 24, 2024. The series centers around Patricia “Tater” Ramirez Humphrey, who uncovers her unique charm after her 12 cousins temporarily move in with her family residing in Los Angeles during the summer. Natasha Kline was responsible for creating this show, and it boasted the vocal talents of Myrna Velasco as “Tater”, Jim Conroy as Tater’s father and an imaginary, conversing tiger, Melissa Villaseñor as Tater’s younger, skeptical sister, and Michelle Ortiz as Tater’s artistic mother.

All 28 episodes of Primos Season 1 will still be available to stream on Disney+. 

In recent times, “Primos” isn’t the first show to be canceled on Disney Channel. Over the past year and a half, several well-reviewed animated series on the channel have been terminated, suggesting it might be part of an ongoing pattern.

The Ghost and Molly McGee

Debuting on Disney Channel in October 2021, The Ghost and Molly McGee was unexpectedly otherworldly as Molly McGee stumbled upon a ghost residing in her recently moved-in home. However, when a curse went awry, he became bound to her instead, leading them to form an unlikely friendship over time.

For two seasons, “The Ghost and Molly McGee” aired, ending on January 13, 2024. Before it was eventually canceled in May 2022, DisneyToon had already started scripting episodes for Season 3, according to their reports.

Hailey’s On It!

In a different phrasing, the Disney Channel animated show, titled “Hailey’s On It!“, revolves around 14-year-old Hailey Banks, who is generally cautious. Initially, the series premiered on Disney Channel on June 8, 2023. However, it was eventually taken off air on October 2, 2024 after wrapping up its first season.

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur 

This Disney series is centered around a 13-year-old superhero prodigy named Lunella Lafayette and her red dinosaur companion, set within the Marvel Comics universe. It also features appearances by actors from the Avengers team as part of its nods to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Following the announcement for a second season on October 22, 2022, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur’s first season made its debut on Disney Channel on February 10, 2023. Sparked by favorable criticisms, the second season started airing in February 2024, and the concluding episodes of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur aired on February 6, 2025.

In October 2024, Disney Channel made an announcement that they were cancelling their Marvel show before it was due to have a crossover with “Spidey and His Amazing Friends” in November of the same year.
