Disney+ Names Angela Jain Content Chief for EMEA Amid Slate Growth Push

Disney Company has appointed Angela Jain as the head of content for Disney+ in Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), a newly created position. She is set to join Disney in September, having previously worked at ITV Studios where she was known for relaunching Love Island for ITV in 2015.

The new role follows Disney’s recent earnings call, where they emphasized the significance of international markets and their investment in local originals that bolster their global content as key factors for expanding their streaming business. In Europe, Disney+ will boost its production of local originals over the next four years, enhancing the diversity and quality of its content offering.

Jain will be responsible for leading the EMEA content strategy for original productions on Disney+, handling areas such as commissioning, production management, business affairs, and acquisitions of Disney+ originals. She will report to Eric Schrier, president of Disney Television Studios and Global Original Television Strategy.

The company announced an exciting lineup of upcoming original shows, such as ‘The Lost Station Girls’, ‘Alice and Steve’, and ‘Call My Agent Berlin’. Additionally, they will debut unscripted series like ‘Sneaker Wars: Adidas Vs Puma’ and the second season of ‘Italia’s Got Talent’.

Angela has extensive experience in the TV industry, working in various roles including channel management, commissioning, and production. At ITV, she served as controller of digital channels and acquisitions. In this role, she greenlit shows like “Love Island”, “Plebs”, “The Big Reunion”, and “Timewasters”. While at E4, she commissioned popular series such as “The Inbetweeners”, “Misfits”, and “Dead Set”, in addition to acquiring hit shows like “Glee” and “The Big Bang Theory”.
