Disney Pixel RPG seems like an interesting blend of the old and the new, but as someone who prefers tactical control over automation, I’m a bit skeptical about the auto-battling functions. However, the game’s charming pixel art and the inclusion of beloved Disney characters have certainly piqued my interest.
GungHo Entertainment recently revealed a new trailer and images for their upcoming, officially licensed Disney Pixel RPG game, which is currently open for pre-registration. The game combines AFK features, RPG battles, and board game-style world maps in an exciting blend that also showcases beloved Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse. Expected to release on both iOS and Android platforms this year.
A quick look at the trailer showcases familiar Disney characters such as Genie from Aladdin or Baymax from Big Hero 6. With so many films, TV shows, and more under their belt, it’s not unexpected that tapping into this vast library of characters is a coveted goal for developers seeking original partners in storytelling.
The latest preview additionally highlights several options for tailoring your avatar, plus the standard features allowing you to cultivate crops while offline or enabling your characters to fight autonomously. Although it might not revolutionize gameplay, Disney Pixel RPG undeniably excels in its visual aesthetics.
Totally automatic
I’ve always found it hard to grasp why auto-battler RPGs are so appealing. For me, the primary charm of any RPG lies in the strategic control over where and what my characters do in battle. Auto-battlers seem to diminish this aspect, but considering their widespread popularity, I must be overlooking something.
It seems unlikely that the Disney Pixel RPG won’t be successful, given how profitable Disney’s catalog remains. Furthermore, allowing users to insert their own avatars increases its appeal, especially for those eager to fight alongside characters like Mickey Mouse.
