Disney+ Sets Release Date for K-Drama Tentpole ‘Tempest’ Starring Gianna Jun, Gang Dongwon

Disney Plus has announced that the highly anticipated K-drama series titled “Tempest” will premiere globally on September 10th. This nine-episode international spy thriller stars renowned Korean actors such as Gianna Jun (Jun Ji-hyun) and Gang Dongwon, alongside American actors like John Cho and Michael Gaston. The series will make its debut with the release of three episodes simultaneously on Disney Plus internationally and Hulu in the U.S. New episodes will be released weekly until the two-part finale on October 1st.

Under the guidance of “Queen of Tears” showrunner Kim Heewon and scripted by frequent collaborator Chung Seokyung (known for “Decision to Leave” and “The Handmaiden”), the series “Tempest” delves into the aftermath of an assassination attempt on a South Korean presidential candidate. As this event sets off a chain reaction, revealing hidden government secrets, international intelligence operations, and covert partnerships, a former United Nations ambassador (Jun) and a morally ambiguous mercenary (Gang) become entangled in a global conspiracy that may reach as far as the White House.

The show, which is Jun’s first on Disney+, brings together an exceptionally diverse international cast for a Korean drama – stars like Cho (from “Star Trek”), Gaston (known for “Bridge of Spies”), and Spencer Garrett (“Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood”) are among them. Additionally, Lee Misook, Park Haejoon, and Christopher Gorham will also appear in the series.

As a gamer, I’d put it like this: “I’ve learned that ‘Tempest’ is a creation I can’t wait to dive into, directed by the seasoned action choreographer Heo Myeonghaeng, known for ‘The Roundup: Punishment’. This epic adventure is brought to life by Imaginus in collaboration with Showrunners, AA, and Skydance.

I’m thrilled about the upcoming release of “Tempest” on Disney+! This streaming giant is picking up speed in the Korean drama scene, and it shows with their successes like “Nine Puzzles,” which was the most-watched Korean original on Disney+ in 2025 so far. “Tempest” is one of the highly anticipated K-content titles for the remainder of the year, generating excitement through its star-studded international cast, top-tier creative team, and relevant storyline.
