Disney World’s Shocking Change: Both Water Parks Open This Summer!

On April Fool’s Day, working in professional news writing for entertainment can be quite challenging. With a portion of what we observe being entirely fabricated, it becomes difficult to discern truth from fiction, even when the information originates from trusted sources. As a result, my initial thought upon learning about the latest Disney World update was that it might just be a prank.

Over the past five years, since Disney World temporarily shut down due to the global pandemic, many things have either returned to their original state or evolved into a “new normal.” One of these changes that appeared to become permanent was the rotation of only one of its two water parks being operational at any given time. However, this summer marks the first time since 2019 that both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon will be open for guests to enjoy – no joke!

Blizzard Beach And Typhoon Lagoon Will Both Be Open At The Same Time This Summer

Starting May 21 and running through September 7, Disney World has revealed that it will operate both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon water parks. At this moment, Typhoon Lagoon is undergoing renovations; however, Blizzard Beach will be closed for a brief spell of refurbishment from May 1. This means that, following the short closure, both water parks will welcome guests once again on May 21.

On May 21st, it will mark a rare occasion in almost six years where these two parks will be operational simultaneously. After undergoing renovations at the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020, they were both closed due to the pandemic. Although the theme parks resumed operations, the water parks remained shuttered for an extended duration. During this closure, Blizzard Beach experienced a significant transformation, incorporating elements from Frozen at its Disney World site.

Visitors can now find multiple options to stay comfortable amidst the Orlando heat, given that the additional room might become necessary.

Disney World Is Offering Free Water Park Access To All Resort Guests In 2025

It’s exciting to hear that both Disney World water parks will reopen simultaneously. The decision to make this change might have been driven by necessity rather than choice. Last year, Disney World announced a new policy granting free water park access on the day of check-in to all guests staying at their resort hotels, which could be a factor influencing the timing of the reopening.

From what I’ve heard, the attraction seems to have been quite a hit already. Given Florida’s scorching summers, it’s reasonable to assume that just one water park might not be able to accommodate all the visitors eager to escape the heat.

Indeed, by disclosing that both water parks will operate concurrently until September 7, it’s hinted that likely on September 8, one of them, possibly Bizzard Beach, will shut down. The intriguing point now is whether this simultaneous opening for the summer season will become the standard practice moving forward, or if it’s a unique, one-time occurrence?
