Disneyland Is Making A Big Change To The Haunted Mansion This Year, And It’s About Time

2025 marks a significant milestone for Disneyland as it celebrates its 70th anniversary. This special occasion is not only commemorating the iconic park but also bringing back some remarkable entertainment from its rich history to honor the celebration. Furthermore, there’s an exciting debut planned – an animatronic version of Walt Disney, a decision that has sparked discussions, yet promises to be a major highlight when unveiled. However, the real buzz is around the Haunted Mansion, as plans are underway to finally bring this beloved attraction to life in 2025.

2024 marked a unique absence of the conventional Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland, as it was mostly shut down throughout the year due to the construction of a new queue area. The ride reopened just in time for the Halloween season, leading directly into the Haunted Mansion Holiday, the annual Nightmare Before Christmas overlay that typically begins in September and ends after New Year’s Day. However, 2025 promises a change, as Disneyland has announced that Haunted Mansion Holiday will not debut this year until November 14, which coincides with the start of Disneyland’s Christmas celebrations. For the first time in many years, the traditional Haunted Mansion will be operational during Halloween.

The Haunted Mansion Should Always Remain It’s Traditional Self For Halloween

This news is terrific! I may not share Ryan Gosling’s disdain for Haunted Mansion Holiday, but I do believe it adds a unique charm to Disneyland that sets it apart from Walt Disney World. For me, Haunted Mansion Holiday isn’t so much about Halloween as it is a Christmas-themed overlay. That’s why visiting it during the Halloween season seems somewhat off-kilter to me.

In the festive spirit of Christmas, I find myself drawn to a unique allure. A slightly eerie charm infused with holiday cheer is precisely what many folks might crave from the Haunted Mansion during November and December. However, October calls for a more chilling mansion, and the classic version has always been superior in that respect.

The Haunted Mansion Change Might Be A One Year Anomaly

At the moment, it’s uncertain if the modification in the overlay is just a temporary adjustment or a permanent shift in the routine. There’s a good chance that we might only experience the prolonged Haunted Mansion in 2025.

The Haunted Mansion is temporarily shutting down to remove the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay and will reopen on January 18, 2023, marking the first time since August 2023 that the standard Haunted Mansion has been accessible. Given the prolonged closure, it’s possible that a longer-than-usual run is being planned as an extra treat for fans, allowing more time for those who prefer the original version to arrange their visits.

Additionally, since Disneyland’s 70th anniversary begins this summer, it seems logical to keep the traditional mansion open for a longer celebration duration.

In contrast, I’m hoping that it will become standard practice for Haunted Mansion Holiday to be celebrated during Christmas instead of Halloween. To me, it seems perfectly suited for the holiday season.
