The uncertain fate of Doctor Odyssey will be a topic of discussion as ABC presents at Disney’s upcoming event on Tuesday.
The current ABC scripted series, “Cruel Summer” produced by 20th Television and Ryan Murphy Television, with Joshua Jackson as the main character, a doctor on a cruise ship, is yet to hear about its future (its season finale will be broadcast on Thursday). Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich has mentioned that discussions with executive producer Murphy regarding the show’s next stages are ongoing. He further confirmed this in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday.
At the moment, it’s not planned in our timeline. We’re still brainstorming ideas with Ryan, discussing future possibilities. Ryan is quite occupied, but rest assured, we will keep the conversation going.
Show “Doctor Odyssey,” featuring Phillipa Soo, Sean Teale, and Don Johnson, attracts approximately 8 million viewers according to Nielsen’s cross-platform ratings. These ratings track viewing over a period of 35 days. In terms of ABC dramas, it ranks fifth behind “High Potential,” “Will Trent,” “911,” and “The Rookie.” When considering all shows on the network this season (excluding sports), it ranks seventh in total viewership.
As a gamer, I’m part of the team behind “Doctor Odyssey,” a project spearheaded by writers and executive producers Jon Robin Baitz, Murphy, Joe Baken. Alongside us, Jackson and Johnson are also serving as executive producers. Directing this epic journey is Paris Barclay, with Eric Paquette, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, and Nissa Diederich also taking on the role of executive producers.
Murphy will maintain a pair of shows on ABC during the fall, including “911” and its fresh spinoff titled “911: Nashville.” The latter program is set to replace “Doctor Odyssey,” which currently airs at 9 p.m. on Thursdays.
