Certain publications are suggesting that Gatwa might resign, to be succeeded by none other than Billie Piper, a highly recognized figure among Whovians – the first new companion of the revival period and a fan favorite. After departing at the conclusion of season 2, she made a sensational comeback in season 4, and then reappeared in one of the few companions who returned for the 50th anniversary special titled “The Day of the Doctor.

There’s some debate among fans about the possibility of Billie Piper playing the Doctor herself. One Twitter user expressed they would stop watching the show if it were true, while another found the idea implausible and potentially disrespectful to her previous character, Rose. The comparison given is similar to casting Freya Allen as Geralt instead of Ciri, or Brent Spiner as Picard over Brent Spiner’s Data character.

Based on reports, the rumor stemmed from Sci-Fi and Fantasy Gazette. They asserted that BBC television executives were potentially planning to resurrect Piper, along with suggesting that some Disney+ subscribers in Spain received an email featuring a picture of Piper’s eyes emitting regeneration energy.

Instead, it’s far more probable that the picture being referred to depicts Rose in the Season 1 finale of “Doctor Who,” particularly in the episode titled “The Parting of the Ways.” During this episode, Rose enters the core of the TARDIS and gains divine powers, which manifest as her eyes glowing brightly. This scene might be easily confused with one showing a regeneration.

Indicating a strong possibility, if there’s going to be a new Sixteenth Doctor, it could very well be Jo Martin, the enigmatic Fugitive Doctor who hasn’t had a full season yet.
