A physician, found guilty of unlawfully providing the anesthetic drug ketamine to Matthew Perry, a supply which reportedly contributed to his addiction and ultimately proved fatal, has consented to admit guilt as per court records.
As a gamer, I found myself in a strange predicament. Over two weeks leading up to my character’s demise, a man named Dr. Salvador Plasencia handed me, or rather my character, twenty vials of ketamine. At times, he even made house calls, administering the injections personally. In a court filing on Monday in California, federal prosecutors proposed a sentence ranging from 15 to 21 months for four counts of ketamine distribution. If found guilty at trial, he could have faced up to 40 years behind bars.
With the admission of guilt, Plasencia – the proprietor of an urgent care facility in Malibu, California – is now the fourth individual to confess in relation to Perry’s unfortunate demise, which was determined to be a result of severe ketamine overdose. In 2023, he was found unconscious and floating face-down in the heated pool at his Los Angeles residence.
Federal prosecutors charged Plasencia last year for allegedly causing an overdose. In one specific incident where he gave ketamine to Perry, the actor’s blood pressure suddenly increased. However, even after this, Plasencia encouraged Perry’s personal assistant (who was also indicted) to get more. In a message, he said, “I know you mentioned taking a break. I have been accumulating it in the meantime. I’m not sure when you plan to resume, but if it’s while I’m out of town this weekend, I’ve left supplies with one of my nurses.” (Based on court documents.)
In a message to another defendant involved in the same case, Plasencia is said to have written, “I’m curious about how much this person might pay… Let’s see what happens.
If the defendant admits guilt on the four charges, the federal prosecutors plan to drop the remaining charges (which involved falsifying documents as part of an effort to conceal illegal transactions) and suggest a leniency in sentencing.
Out of the five individuals accused, it’s only Jasveen Sangha, often referred to as the “Ketamine Queen” for supplying the lethal dose to Perry, who has denied the charges against her. Her trial is set to commence in August.
