- Will ‘Gladiator III’ Ever Happen?
As a seasoned movie-goer who has sat through countless blockbusters and indie films alike, I must say that ‘Gladiator II’ is a spectacle not to be missed. The sequel, long-awaited by fans of the original, delivers on all fronts, with Paul Mescal embodying the spirit of Maximus Decimus Meridius in a captivating performance.
Audience members are eagerly anticipating their revisit to the Colosseum as Gladiator II hits theaters on November 22. This upcoming film carries on the tradition of Maximus Decimus Meridius, with Paul Mescal portraying Lucius, the son of Maximus and Lucilla (Connie Nielsen). After leaving Rome, Lucius spent 25 years in Numidia, cultivating a fierce animosity towards the Roman Empire. The sequel finds Lucius thrust into the Colosseum following a country-wide war, chronicling the thrilling continuation of the Gladiator saga.
After the 147-minute movie ends (a relatively brief duration according to Ridley Scott), viewers might find themselves pondering a single query. “Do I need to stick around till the credits finish?” Indeed, the influence of Marvel is palpable, as many films such as Civil War and Oppenheimer have kept viewers in their seats until the very end for hints of sequels or bonus scenes. So, does this practice extend to Gladiator II? Rest assured, the following discussion will be devoid of spoilers!

Does ‘Gladiator II’ Have a Post-Credits Scene?
If you’ve found yourself eager to beat the traffic or in need of a restroom break after a two-and-a-half-hour cinematic journey with me, rest assured, there’s no post-credits scene for Gladiator II. The final shot before the credits rolls is the concluding moment we get from Gladiator II. However, if you wish to lend your applause and appreciation to the countless individuals who worked tirelessly on this film, by all means, feel free to stay through the credits!
Some spectators had hoped that Ridley Scott might break away from the usual pattern by incorporating a scene after the credits, potentially hinting at Gladiator III. There’s been a lot of chatter online about how this sequel could link to a third movie. Could it be possible that Paul Mescal’s character Lucius lived through the events of the film, with an additional scene suggesting his next grand journey? Or would a post-credits sequence bring back Maximus Decimus Meridius instead?
If the proposed scenario holds true, it bears an uncanny resemblance to a preliminary script of Nick Cave’s “Gladiator II.” In this tale, Maximus rises from the grave as a champion of Roman deities, tasked with annihilating Jesus Christ (a fact we didn’t fabricate). It’s extremely improbable that Russell Crowe will resurface in “Gladiator II.” During his interviews for “The Pope’s Exorcist,” the actor from Australia found it challenging to suppress his annoyance at repeatedly fielding questions about “Gladiator II,” despite having clarified that he won’t be appearing in it.
Will ‘Gladiator III’ Ever Happen?
As a movie connoisseur eagerly anticipating Paul Mescal’s potential to follow in Russell Crowe’s footsteps, I find myself in a bit of a peculiar position. Whilst American cinephiles are still on tenterhooks, our counterparts across the Atlantic have already been treated to the latest installment. The digital realm buzzes with US fans scrambling to dodge spoilers, while their European counterparts seem to hold the upper hand, savoring every moment without a care in the world.
Regardless of how Gladiator II concludes, it’s evident that Ridley Scott has been formulating ideas for a third film in the series. In fact, he has already started writing a script for the threequel, expressing his enthusiasm by stating, “I’ve got eight pages. I’ve made a strong start on a very promising foundation.” Initially, Gladiator was not intended to be part of a trilogy. However, during the creation of the sequel, ideas began to flourish, and Scott found himself captivated by the prospect of a third film. Mark your calendars, as Gladiator II is set to release in US theaters on November 22, 2024.
