As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the worlds of various video games, I can’t help but see a striking resemblance between this casting call and the quests we embark on in our digital adventures. Just like in those games, here is a chance to step into the shoes of a legendary character, Dolly Parton, and live out her story on Broadway.
On Thursday, Dolly Parton launched an online audition process for her forthcoming Broadway production, titled “Dolly: A New Musical“. Now, fans from all over can seize the opportunity to try out and potentially portray the iconic country artist.
Regardless if you’re pursuing your aspirations from a small hometown or you’ve been gracing stages nationwide for years, I invite you to join me in making my story a Broadway reality – maybe even portraying me,” Parton expressed in a YouTube video. “This production is an ode to my music, my journey, and all the wonderful individuals who’ve accompanied me on this incredible ride.
Parton made it clear that everyone, regardless of their experience in theater, is welcome to join – whether you’re a seasoned expert or someone undiscovered but possesses a unique spark. However, there’s one essential condition: we’re seeking performers who can effectively convey the essence of my personal journey.
Aspiring vocalists are invited to send in their auditions on the website dollymusical.com. Additionally, they should upload their performances online and tag it with #searchfordolly for consideration. Noteworthy submissions will lead to a live audition with the show’s casting director.
Back in June, I proudly unveiled my upcoming musical, entitled “Hello, I’m Dolly.” This enchanting production will be filled with many of my beloved hits, along with fresh tunes penned exclusively for this magical show. The script is a collaborative effort between myself and the brilliant Maria S. Schlatter, who previously brought my Christmas on the Square film to life. Bartlett Sher will grace us with his masterful direction. As a die-hard fan, I can hardly wait!
The performance marks a comeback to Broadway for Parton, as she penned the music score that earned a Tony nomination in the stage adaptation of “9 to 5: The Musical“.
