Actor Domhnall Gleeson, known for his role in the spinoff of “The Office,” was urged by predecessors John Krasinski and Steve Carell to join the show. The series, titled “The Paper,” is scheduled to debut on Peacock television network later this year.
In collaboration with veteran writer Michael Koman, who worked on Late Night with Conan O’Brien and Nathan For You, Greg Daniels, the brains behind The Office, is working on a fresh workplace sitcom. This new series will focus on the employees at a struggling Midwestern newspaper called The Truth Teller. Gleeson has been chosen for a prominent role in the upcoming show titled The Paper.
The Paper Takes Place in a Struggling Newsroom
Recently, Gleeson mentioned that he had a conversation with Krasinski and Carell about “The Paper”, as he has the chance to collaborate with both of them. Carell was not only a producer but also a co-star in the psychological thriller series on FX alongside Gleeson, while the “Star Wars” actor is featured in Krasinski’s recent action film titled “Fountain of Youth”.
According to Gleeson, “[John] was terrific. To be precise, the valuable guidance he shared with me was to go for it,” he stated. Similarly, “Steve Carell, another exceptional performer I had collaborated with in the past, was equally marvelous,” he added.
He continued, expressing: “It was suggested that since Greg Daniels is involved, it’s an opportunity worth pursuing as it’s a rare pleasure to collaborate with him. And I’m overjoyed that I took it because I believe we’ve created something truly delightful together. So I’m ecstatic about the outcome.
Gleeson acknowledged that Carell and Krasinski played significant roles in persuading him to accept the challenging part in the sequel series of the cherished sitcom, The Office.
“I’m so happy I did it because I think we have something really lovely.”
I feel as though I might have eventually found my way there without their help, but if John and Steve had discouraged me, I probably wouldn’t have gone. However, they were nothing but encouraging, and I’m grateful I followed their advice.
In a recent chat, Krasinski expressed readiness to reprise his role as Jim Halpert, should the opportunity arise. Additionally, he showered compliments on his “Fountain of Youth” costar Gleeson.

Krasinski expressed his eagerness to witness how they’ll develop this fantastic concept. If Greg [Daniels] is the one in charge, he’s confident everyone will be on board. Plus, there’s no better actor than [Domhnall] for the role. He’s absolutely brilliant and seems tailor-made for it. It’s likely we’ll start having watch parties again just to enjoy their performance.
It turns out that Carell declined the opportunity to portray the ex-Dunder Mifflin manager Michael Scott in “The Paper”.
I’ll be observing from afar and won’t make a personal appearance. It’s a fresh venture, and my character [Michael Scott] doesn’t seem to fit in this type of setting. However, I’m quite intrigued by it; it seems like an engaging concept. The premise is that it takes place in a struggling newspaper company, and I’ve previously worked with Domhnall Gleeson, who plays one of the main roles. We collaborated on ‘The Patient,’ and he’s not only a brilliant actor but also a genuinely kind person, so I anticipate this project will be fantastic.
