On Monday, Dominique Thorne introduced her fresh Disney+ show titled “Ironheart” in Los Angeles, subtly suggesting some backstage chats she’s had with the man behind the Iron Man persona.
2022 saw the introduction of Riri Williams, a brilliant teenage character in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”. In this storyline, she’s known for crafting an armor suit resembling Iron Man’s. Post her time in Wakanda, she returns to her native city, Chicago, where she persists with inventing advanced technology. The narrative progresses as she becomes entangled with Parker Robbins, better known as the Hood (portrayed by Anthony Ramos).
Riri Williams, a smart teen, debuted in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” (2022), where she made an armor suit like Iron Man’s. After leaving Wakanda, she goes back to her city, Chicago, and keeps inventing new tech. The plot thickens as she gets involved with a character named Parker Robbins, who is also known as the Hood. Anthony Ramos plays this role.
When she initially took on the role in “Wakanda Forever“, she understood that her character’s story wouldn’t end with just the film, as they had plans to create a show or series around her. They even mentioned, “We’ll introduce her in Wakanda Forever,” implying that there was more to come for her character after this movie.
Towards the conclusion of filming “Ironheart”, Alden Ehrenreich introduced Dominique Thorne (who plays Ironheart) to Robert Downey Jr., who played Iron Man, as they had recently collaborated on the movie “Oppenheimer”. Ehrenreich explained that it felt like saying, “You two really need to meet and chat” since she’s essentially his successor in some aspects. Naturally, Downey Jr. was very welcoming, generous, and gracious.

Thorne explained about her chat with Downey Jr., “Once he watched the show, he could instantly voice all the numerous thoughts and ideas I had as an actor, ensuring I captured them while also maintaining a balance. As expected from the veteran, he grasped everything swiftly, just like the master assessing a scene. Working with him on this journey has been truly remarkable.”
Thorne described her discussion with Downey Jr., “After seeing the show, he instantly spoke about all the various thoughts and ideas I had as an actor, ensuring they were portrayed while maintaining balance. Just like a seasoned pro, he quickly understood everything, demonstrating his ability to assess a situation. Working with him has been an exceptional experience on this ride.
Ryan Coogler, director of the “Black Panther” films and executive producer of the series, expressed his enthusiasm when creating Riri Williams’ story, stating, “We had the chance to expand her entire world. The city of Chicago hasn’t been showcased in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before; we were eager to explore it. It offered a fantastic opportunity for us to discover remarkable talent.
Coogler shared that with “Wakanda Forever,” he had his initial chance to collaborate with Dominique in a film, and he was there to help and encourage her. He’s thrilled about the project and something like this was beyond what he could have imagined on his own. Coogler also hinted that linking the series to “Black Panther 3” is premature at the moment. “It’s too soon for that,” he said, adding, “We can’t put the cart before the horse or discuss future developments, but I’m simply eager for people to watch this show. There are many unexpected twists in it.
