As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the reality-TV universe, I can’t help but feel a bit like a contestant on “The Apprentice” watching this latest twist unfold. Mark Burnett, the man behind my favorite shows like Survivor, Shark Tank, and The Voice, has been appointed as a special envoy to the UK by none other than President-elect Donald Trump.
Donald Trump designated TV producer Mark Burnett as a special representative for dealings with the United Kingdom.
The president-elect shared the news in a Saturday post on TRUTH Social.
Trump announced that he was privileged to designate Mark Burnett as a Special Representative to the UK. With an impressive background in TV production and business, Mark offers a rare combination of diplomatic skills and global visibility for this critical position.
He went on to say, ‘Mark is renowned for developing and airing some of the largest TV shows ever, such as Survivor, Shark Tank, The Voice, and particularly The Apprentice. He served as the Chairman of MGM, and he’s amassed an impressive 13 Emmy Awards!’
The post ended with, “Mark is going to strengthen diplomatic ties, primarily in sectors beneficial to both parties such as trade, investment prospects, and cultural interactions. Kudos to Mark!
During Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, Burnett made a statement about his position regarding the election amid growing demands for him to reveal old recordings from The Apprentice that could mirror Trump’s remarks in the Access Hollywood tapes.
2016 saw Burnett clearly stating that he neither currently nor historically supported Donald Trump’s presidential bid. In other words, he is not in favor of Trump or “Pro-Trump.” Moreover, Burnett and his wife firmly denounce the negative aspects like hatred, division, and misogyny that have unfortunately characterized Trump’s campaign.
During that period, the tapes were in high demand following The Associated Press’s assertion that Trump’s actions on The Apprentice surpassed what was shown on the Access Hollywood footage. Yet, MGM lawyers argued that Burnett did not have the authority to disclose these tapes since the studio owned the rights to the show.
MGM works with various artists on numerous creative projects, such as ‘The Apprentice’. As stated by Marvin S. Putnam from Latham & Watkins, who was representing the studio at the time, their agreements often include clauses about confidentiality and artist rights. MGM intends to uphold these agreements and respect the rights of artists, particularly in relation to ‘The Apprentice’.
