Donna Berwick, the costume designer for “Da 5 Bloods,” “Hemlock Grove,” and “Game of Thrones,” passed away at the age of 66.

On Facebook, Stephan Berwick shared the sad news that his sister passed away on a Wednesday after bravely fighting breast cancer.

I have had the profound privilege of knowing a remarkable woman named Donna Berwick. She was not just my older sister, but the coolest and most magnetic person I’ve ever encountered. Her zest for life was infectious, her spirit indomitable, and her love unconditional.

Donna gained valuable experience and education before embarking on her career in costuming. She graduated with a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York City and obtained an associate’s degree in fashion design from the Fashion Institute of Technology. For over a decade, she honed her skills working in the bustling garment district of NYC, designing costumes for renowned singer-songwriter Grace Jones.

Donna was part of the influential all-female artistic group at Rodeo Caldonia, known for creating groundbreaking art in various forms. Later on, she shifted her focus to film costume design, contributing to notable projects like “Malcolm X,” “Mo’ Better Blues,” “U-571,” “Frailty,” “The Box,” “Peeples,” “If Beale Street Could Talk,” “Da 5 Bloods,” and the latest release “Ezra.” Additionally, she worked on seasons two and three of “Hemlock Grove” and season six of “Game of Thrones.”

I cannot help but feel deeply moved as I pen down the final words of this tribute for my beloved sister, Donna. Her commitment to her craft as a film costume designer always reflected the artistic spirit she nurtured since high school. Born as the eldest child of our remarkable parents, Hermine and Norman Berwick, Donna embodied their virtues and the very essence of our family. My brother and I, along with our siblings Beverly and Jimmy, can only aspire to carry on the legacy that she upheld so gracefully.
