Don’t Miss Your Last Chance: ‘Mission: Impossible’ Trilogy Leaves Netflix in February

As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I’ve got some disappointing news for fellow adrenaline junkies and Mission: Impossible fans alike. Unfortunately, it seems that next month might be a bit quieter than expected in terms of pulse-pounding action, particularly for the ongoing Mission: Impossible series.

Ever since its inception in 1996, the Mission: Impossible franchise has grown to become one of the most iconic action movie franchises on the planet, largely due to the unwavering commitment and daredevil antics of Tom Cruise, who’s always ready to risk his own life for our cinematic thrills.

Although “Mission: Impossible 8,” also known as “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” is scheduled to be released in theaters later this year, fans who haven’t yet delved into the origins of the series have limited time left, as “Mission: Impossible,” “Mission: Impossible II,” and “Mission: Impossible III” are set to depart from Netflix on February 15. These films, which kickstarted the franchise by introducing Tom Cruise as IMF agent Ethan Hunt in a reboot of the 1966 TV series created by Bruce Geller, will soon be unavailable on the streaming platform. Consequently, for those who wish to catch these action movie classics before they disappear, it’s now a race against time, reminiscent of one of Hunt’s missions.

Under the guidance of director Brian De Palma, the initial Mission: Impossible sees Ethan Hunt falsely accused of murdering his IMF team, prompting him to act independently (a tactic he’s employed before) to clear his name. John Woo takes over as director for Mission: Impossible 2, transforming it into a high-octane action movie. The storyline has Hunt confronting a former IMF agent who aims to steal a lethal virus in this installment. Lastly, J.J. Abrams directs Mission: Impossible 3, setting the stage for the series’ signature style and grandeur. Here, Hunt forms a team to apprehend Owen Davian (portrayed by the exceptional Philip Seymour Hoffman), who intends to peddle an enigmatic and dangerous artifact called “The Rabbit’s Foot.” Interestingly enough, this item seems to resurface in Mission: Impossible 8…

The ‘Mission: Impossible’ Franchise Gets Better & Better

Over the course of its releases, the Mission: Impossible film series has continually improved, with each new installment receiving higher critical acclaim than the last. Starting with a respectable 65% on Rotten Tomatoes, the second movie was the only one to receive a less-than-favorable rating at 56%. However, Mission: Impossible 3 managed to turn things around with a score of 71%. The series truly found its footing in the fourth movie, as Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning all earned scores of 94% and higher.

Fingers crossed that the upcoming movie in the series, titled “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” concludes with equal excitement. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie and co-written with Erik Jendresen for the screenplay, this film features Tom Cruise along with Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, Henry Czerny as Eugene Kittridge, Vanessa Kirby as Alanna Mitsopolis, Hayley Atwell as Grace, Pom Klementieff as Paris, and Shea Whigham as Jasper Briggs. Additionally, Greg Tarzan Davis, Mariela Garriga, Rolf Saxon, Holt McCallany, Nick Offerman, Frederick Schmidt, Mark Gatiss, Charles Parnell, Janet McTeer, Hannah Waddingham, Lucy Tulugarjuk, Katy O’Brian, Tramell Tillman, and Stephen Oyoung are also part of the cast. “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” is expected to hit theaters on May 23, 2025.
