As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for mobile gaming, I must say that the DOOGEE V40 Pro has truly taken my breath away! With its large 2.4k resolution screen and 16GB RAM, this phone elevates my gaming sessions to unprecedented heights. The detail is so sharp, it’s like having a mini console in the palm of my hand!
Upon receiving the DOOGEE V40 Pro for review, I must admit to being somewhat hesitant due to my lack of prior knowledge about the brand. Yet, I’ve been delightfully impressed by this powerhouse of a smartphone! Its expansive screen, 16 GB RAM, and D7300 Octa-Core Processor make it ideal for intense mobile gaming sessions.
Doogue, being a manufacturer of robust phones, strives to deliver an enjoyable user experience by consistently advancing and refining its offerings. The name ‘V’ series was derived from Victorious, and previous models have been the V30 and Vmax. The Doogue V40 lineup consists of the V40 and V40 Pro models.
Unboxing the DOOGEE V40 Pro
The V40 Pro comes in a sleek-looking, glossy black cardboard box with a metallic rose gold rectangle covering a large area with an eye-drawing letter V inside it. Upon first unboxing the V40 Pro, you’ll notice that it’s considerably larger than your typical smartphone. My Samsung Galaxy S22 looks puny beside it.
The sleek, dark exterior, combined with its rugged, armored design, makes you feel powerful just holding it. It boasts a 6.78 inch screen with a TF/SIM card slot, a button to activate the miniature screen on the left edge of the device, and traditional volume and power buttons on the right. A speaker resides on each side of the charging port on the bottom of the phone.
On the phone’s back, arranged in a circular pattern, are four cameras: a primary 200MP lens, a night vision 20MP camera, an 8MP telephoto lens for long range focus, and an 8MP ultra-wide angle lens. Below these, you’ll find a small, trapezoid-shaped display that shows details such as the time, date, and battery percentage. To activate this mini-screen, simply tap the button located beneath the SIM card slot.
Upon taking the device out of its packaging, you’ll uncover a black USB-C cable and a wall charger block. Although this charger block is not compatible with standard US power outlets, you can still charge your device if you have a USB-C wall socket available. To do so, simply peel off the plastic wrapping on the cord and connect it to the user manual and screen protector found inside.
The V40 Pro is an Impressive Device
The DOOGEE V40 Pro can be unlocked via fingerprint or facial recognition or by entering your passcode. If your current surroundings are dim, the screen will fill with light in an attempt to brighten your face for facial recognition, and in my experience, this almost always worked.
As a gamer, I’ve got to say, the V40 Pro’s battery performance is nothing short of impressive. With its massive 8680 mAh powerhouse, I barely needed to recharge it more than twice during an entire week – and those charges were only after extended gaming sessions and movie marathons. To top it off, it charges lightning-fast, so you won’t have to wait long before getting back to the action.
Don’t Block the Speakers
The device’s least impressive aspect is the sound quality. However, that’s not to say it isn’t good. Music and dialogue come through strong, sounding crisp and clean. I also made several phone calls using the device and found that I was easily able to hear and be heard.
When playing in landscape mode, there’s a tendency to unintentionally cover the speakers with your hands. To avoid muffling the sound, simply keep a small gap between the device’s edge and your hand. While the speaker placement could be improved, it doesn’t cause significant problems when using portrait mode.
The DOOGEE V40 Pro is Made for Gaming
Gaming on the V40 Pro is an absolute dream. Everything from Star Wars KOTOR II to Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis ran flawlessly. With 16GB RAM, it can easily run titles like Love and Deep Space and
Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat
at their highest graphic settings. This smartphone utilizes Wi-Fi 6 for fast and uninterrupted gaming. I never had any lag or low frame rates when gaming on Roblox.
Furthermore, the generous screen size allows for easy identification of all details and provides plenty of room to navigate virtual joysticks without losing sight of your gameplay. This is also advantageous when playing games like Neverwinter Nights where button placement can seem rather tight.
As I immersed myself in Love and Deep Space for roughly an hour, I found a tiny region at the rear of my phone, close to the camera lenses, subtly warming up. Despite this, I persisted with my gaming session for a significant amount of time, and that spot never escalated its warmth beyond a gentle, comfortable level.
Comparing the V40 vs V40 Pro
The V40 and V40 Pro are relatively similar, with the Pro having 16GB RAM (up to 36GB) compared to the V40’s 12(Up to 32GB). The V40 lacks a rear screen and has a 108MP in comparison to the Pro’s 200Mp camera. It also doesn’t include the 8MP long focus camera with 50x digital zoom. While the rear screen is cool, unless you plan to use your phone for photography, you’re probably fine sticking with the V40, which retails for $499. However, for those who like a little extra flair, the V40 Pro is the way to go.
DOOGEE V40 Pro: For Those Who Dare to Play
The DOOGEE V40 series slogan is “For those who dare to play,” and honestly, it’s pretty accurate. The V40 Pro is an excellent phone for Android gaming that exceeded my expectations at nearly every turn. The large 2.4k resolution screen takes your mobile gaming sessions to the next level, allowing you to see every detail and negating the issue of cramped together buttons.
Despite some reservations about the speaker location, the audio quality of this device is clear. Its impressive battery life allows for extended gaming sessions without disruptions. With its 512 GB internal storage expandable up to 2TB with a T-Flash card, you’ll never run out of room for new games. What truly stands out is the DOOGEE V40 Pro’s ability to handle every game thrown at it seamlessly. At just $599.99, it seems like a fantastic bargain.
