Draga & Aurel to Debut Phebe Pendant Lamps at Milan Design Week

Design studio Draga & Aurel is set to reveal its Phebe pendant lamps at Milan Design Week, showcased at the esteemed Rossana Orlandi Gallery. As part of their “Transparency Matters” collection, these lamps represent Draga & Aurel’s continuous investigation into transparency through a fusion of Minimalism, Space Age design, and Optical Art influences. The Phebe lamps draw inspiration from the floating architecture of Mike Kelley’s “Kandor” series, moving beyond traditional lighting concepts to become interactive elements that engage with their environment, fostering an extraordinary conversation between light and space.

The name “Phebe” derives from the Greek word for ‘bright’ and ‘luminous’, symbolizing the ethereal and playful, colored radiance of these lamps. Crafted in the Como workshop by Draga & Aurel, they boast two adjustable discs capable of diffusing light at different intensities. The top disc, made from Lucite, gives a sleek and radiant appearance, while the lower disc is constructed using layers of epoxy resin in various colors and shades. This unique blend of materials creates an aesthetically striking design reminiscent of the Space Age – a time characterized by imaginative flair and forward-thinking design concepts.

The Phebe pendant lamps are crafted with an appearance reminiscent of satellites drifting through alternate dimensions, blending reality and imagination. Their ethereal radiance offers both visual and emotional engagement, harmonizing recollections of the past with glimpses into tomorrow. The interaction between transparency and hue converts light into a resonance, enticing users to delve into the artistic and creative aspects of illumination. With their flexible, adjustable design, these lamps can adapt to various environments and atmospheres, amplifying both their practical and aesthetic value.
