Discussing a popular topic this summer, the live-action adaptation of “How To Train Your Dragon” has been a hit, earning over $500 million globally and receiving favorable reviews, including from TopMob. The reason for its success is clear: it retains the captivating storyline of the original while offering breathtaking dragon scenes and some thoughtful updates that modernize the film. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, here are two key points to consider.
- The movie is (already) headed onto VOD and Digital platforms on July 15th, which is so very soon.
- There are two moments you absolutely need to watch out for.
The sequel to “How To Train Your Dragon 2” has been officially approved by Universal and is set to be shown at their CinemaCon lineup this year. Therefore, it’s an excellent opportunity to watch it for the first time, or revisit it if you’ve seen it before, whether it’s your second, third, or even fourth time!
How To Train Your Dragon Live Action Just Released In Theaters A Month Ago
I’m amazed that it’s already been a month since “How To Train Your Dragon” graced the big screen. Time seems to have whizzed by, as if dragons themselves were in control of the clock! However, starting July 15th, you can bring this magical movie home for viewing or rental. And for those who prefer higher quality, the 4K and Blu-Ray versions will be available on August 12th.
Certainly!
“To be honest, I’ve already checked out the bonus content on the disc. If you enjoy special features like ‘Building Berk,’ funny outtakes featuring Gerard Butler or behind-the-scenes glimpses into the filmmaking process, there’s plenty to explore. Even if you’re not a fan of Butler’s antics on set, the extras make a point of showing how the movie was filmed mostly for real.
There’s a lot to unpack with the set, including some fun tidbits:
- Director Dean DeBlois has a fun cameo in the movie.
- That puppets and more were used practically to give sightlines and also give the Vikings something real to interact with.
- That the handmade book of dragons was the most expensive practical prop on set! Who knew?
I plan on watching the movie once more since I’m eager to re-experience the two significant scenes that intrigued me when I saw it in the cinema.
The Two Moments I Can’t Wait To Rewatch
As we delve into discussing certain movie scenes, I should clarify that while these aren’t major spoilers, they might still be relevant if you’ve only watched the animated films.
Earlier this year at Epic Universe, I had a conversation with Dean DeBlois and producer Adam Siegel regarding a significant scene in the movie they called the “test drive” of How To Train Your Dragon. This was none other than the initial flight scene where Toothless and Hiccup soared over beautiful, verdant scenery for the very first time.
In plain terms, let me share an honest sentiment: The scene was so powerful that it prompted applause in the theater, and I couldn’t help but feel a surge of emotion. They, the director and producer, mentioned to me that if they could elicit such a reaction from the audience with just one moment, then their work had been done successfully.
Among all scenes in that movie, it’s the one I long to re-experience from my personal space that stands out most. It isn’t the only captivating moment, though. There are plenty of exciting dragon training sequences, but another remarkable scene featuring Gerard Butler and Mason Thames also left an impression while viewing. This scene beautifully portrays the genuine father-son bond they created on set, and it underscores the contrast between their characters’ values and mindsets.
As a movie reviewer, I must say that the spectacular scenes in “How To Train Your Dragon” are truly something to behold. Cressida Cowell herself, the author of this enchanting book, agrees that these moments are what make the live-action adaptation stand out. Indeed, I find myself eager to rewatch this cinematic masterpiece again.
In summary, there’s plenty to explore and enjoy when the film is released, and you won’t have to wait too long anymore!
