With 12 different methods already under our belts and now this mysterious pill-like item, the possibilities are endless!
Contains spoilers for “Dragon Ball: Daima” Season 1, Episode 4 – “Chatty”
The universe of “Dragon Ball” has always been steeped in magical enigma, yet the spin-off series, “Dragon Ball: Daima,” has pushed the franchise to unprecedented heights. Fusion, a method for boosting the main Saiyan characters who have captivated anime enthusiasts worldwide, is not new. However, “Daima” introduces a novel approach called “The Join Bug,” which is a unique type of Dragon Ball that enables multiple entities to merge into one combined being.
How does a Join Bug function? It’s essentially a tiny capsule-shaped object, and when you divide it into two parts, characters who consume each piece can merge into one entity. This fusion, much like in the “Dragon Ball” universe, is temporary. In the fourth episode of “Daima,” titled “Chatty,” Goku (Masako Nozawa) acquires a capsule from a marketplace, adding it to his collection. It’s certain that he will use the Join Bug to fuse with someone, but an unexpected plot twist arises since his regular fusion partner, Vegeta (Yudai Mino), hasn’t been integrated into the storyline yet. This implies that Goku will have to fuse with another companion or adversary instead, introducing a completely new scenario for the character who will emerge.
Every occurrence of fusion creates a unique entity, implying that either a fresh adversary or potential ally could soon appear within the Dragon Clan’s realm. Over time, enthusiasts of this series have grown accustomed to witnessing their beloved characters fuse and may now be eager for some fresh possibilities.
There have been lots of other fusions in Daima
From the moment the fusion ability between Namekians, such as Piccolo (Tomohiro Yamaguchi), was introduced in the original “Dragon Ball” anime, the franchise has shown remarkable creativity when employing this technique. It is typically utilized in situations where no other options seem viable during a fight that demands an unprecedented level of power.
Among all these pairings, Fusion Dance stands out as the most notable. This technique brings together Goten (voiced by Masako Nozawa) and Trunks (Tsubasa Yonag), forming Gotenks (also voiced by Masako Nozawa and Takeshi Kusao). Similarly, it combines Goku and Vegeta into Gogeta (Masako Nozawa and Ryō Horikawa) or Veku (Masako Nozawa and Ryō Horikawa). This fusion was initially introduced in the original “Dragon Ball” manga and anime series and has been frequently utilized since then.
Each fusion is remarkably distinct from the original Dragon Clan individuals who brought them to life, boasting unique characters, aspirations, and abilities. They are employed to vanquish adversaries possessing divine combat skills, such as the deceased Frieza (Ryūsei Nakao). This process gives rise to one of the most potent Super Sayian forms. This dance is a complex interplay between two consenting combatants, and it can even take place amidst battle. Characters like Goku, Piccolo, and Krillin have all performed this fusion, creating some of the franchise’s most iconic combined characters.
Possession, absorption, and five-way fusions
In the universe of Dragon Ball, there are numerous instances where characters fuse together. The Potara Earrings, created by the Supreme Kai, enable fusion when worn. They were first introduced in Dragon Ball Z. If used by two Supreme Kais, this fusion can be permanent. The God Fusion, on the other hand, combines more than three individuals into a single entity, as demonstrated when Goku fused with the entire audience during the Super Worlds Martial Arts Tournament in Dragon Ball Super: Broly. This fusion was crucial to Goku’s ability to defeat the main antagonist, Broly (Bin Shimada), who would have easily defeated Goku otherwise.
Instead of the traditional Fusion Dance, EX-Fusion demands both participants don Metamo-Rings and carry out this unique dance. Unlike other fusions, which have a set duration, characters born from EX-Fusion dissolve when their partners decide to separate. This specific fusion is exclusive to the video game universe of “Dragon Ball: Fusions.” However, it’s not the only method for fighters to combine; they can also merge in other ways within this series.
In the animated series “Dragon Ball GT,” a unique phenomenon called Machine Mutant Fusion takes place, exclusively among machine mutant characters. This fusion can occur in two ways – simple merging and absorption. Simple merging happens when a character splits into multiple entities and then recombines into a single one; for example, Beenz and Abo often do this. Absorption is different, as it involves one character being absorbed into another, which may happen forcefully, creating a new fusion. Additionally, there are freeform fusions, although they are more common in “Dragon Ball: Fusions.” The most powerful form of fusion is the Five-Way Fusion, where multiple characters can be absorbed and combined into one super-powered being. As the series progresses, fans can anticipate even more fusion possibilities in “Dragon Ball: Daima.
