Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D: How to Get Black Pepper

As a seasoned Dragon Quest 3 Remake aficionado who’s navigated countless virtual realms, I can confidently say that the quest for Black Pepper is one of the most intriguing and challenging adventures I’ve embarked on yet!

In the Dragon Quest 3 Remake, Black Pepper seems to be just an ordinary seasoning, yet it holds much more significance.

To fully immerse yourself in the game world’s exploration, it’s essential to acquire a ship that expands your playable area. This guide will show you the steps for getting Black Pepper.

How to Get from Nordy’s Grotto to Baharata

The journey begins in Portoga, a town located centrally on the western side of the map.

Head straight for the castle and speak with the King when you get there.

He will let you know he needs Black Pepper and pledge a ship as compensation for acquiring it.

Locals might subtly suggest that Southeastern regions are known for their Black Pepper production, providing you with a hint about where you’re heading.

The monarch will further disclose that a dwarf called Nordy possesses the ability to guide you on a passage through the mountain range.

This will make it possible for you to continue your journey.

Investigate Portugal and chat with Non-Player Characters (NPCs) to uncover additional clues. This step will help make sure your team is adequately prepared for the challenges ahead.

Nordy resides in a grotto east of Asham, another town near Portoga.

If you’ve already visited Asham, Zoom will get you there in no time. From there, travel east to Nordy’s Grotto.

The grotto is straightforward, with a single path leading to Nordy.

It’s worth taking a detour around the stalagmites and cave walls to uncover hidden items.

Should you locate Nordy, he’ll unveil a mountain pass that facilitates your journey towards Baharata in the southern direction.

Once Nordy’s path opens, travel southward and slightly east to find Baharata.

This lively town marks the next key stop on your journey.

Upon your arrival, you’ll come across a scene unfolding where it’s clear that the local spice merchant’s daughter and her intended have been kidnapped.

In Baharata, before you set off on your journey, Gopal, the merchant, kindly asks for your assistance. It would be prudent to spend a night at the inn and gather necessary provisions before you go.

The upcoming battles will test your party’s strength and strategy.

How to Get Black Pepper

Cross the bridge east of Baharata, then continue north along the shoreline.

After crossing a second bridge, you’ll find the entrance to Kidnapper’s Cave.

This dungeon has two tiers, each crawling with adversaries and filled with riches.

Head to the first floor and navigate the grid pattern to uncover valuable items.

But be ready to encounter formidable adversaries, including Bag O’ Laughs, Antguzzlers, and the cunning Canniboxes.

The exit to the second floor can be found in the bottom-right corner. You’ll find treasure chests with useful loot in the top-left corner of the second floor.

In this situation, the crucial challenge is a battle with Robbin’ Ood and his crew, led by him. Once you’re prepared, head south to initiate the confrontation.

Robbin’ ‘Ood is with several ‘Oodlums, so this battle will be challenging if you’re unprepared.

Approach by dealing with his allies initially to minimize harm, then capitalize on their vulnerabilities by launching lightning assaults.

Frequently restore your team’s health to ensure victory. Once we defeat Robbin ‘Ood’s gang, the captives will be discovered confined within cells.

Pull a nearby lever to free them, and they will begin returning to Baharata.

Yet, Robbin ‘Ood is set to reappear, igniting another conflict. This time, he appears stronger, but perseverance and a clever plan will lead you to victory.

Focus on consistent healing and use your best damage-dealing abilities to bring him down.

When the hostages are safely back in Baharata, go to the Gopal and access the general store.

He’ll express his gratitude for your work and attempt to give you black pepper as a token, however, regrettably, he’s currently out of stock.

Instead, he suggests you visit his supplier at Alltrades Abbey, north of Baharata.

Head down the same route you used to get to Kidnapper’s Cave to find Alltrades Abbey.

Rather than going over the second eastern bridge, continue your journey northward instead. The Abbey, nestled within a forest and encircled by mountains, can be found there.

The Black Pepper supplier can be found close to the entrance inside. Chat with him, and he’ll hand over the Black Pepper to finish this leg of the quest.

Once you have the Black Pepper, return to Portoga and give it to the King.

He will express his gratitude and reward you with a ship, which will be docked and ready for use.
