Drake Brings Out Lauryn Hill for Night One of London Wireless Festival

Lauryn Hill was among the six artists selected by Drake to perform alongside him during his opening night at London’s Wireless Festival over the weekend.

On the first night of the concert series, the rapper from OVO established an R&B vibe. He shared the spotlight with artists like Mario, Bobby Valentino, Bryson Tiller, and Giveon, who each performed fan favorites. Additionally, PARTYNEXTDOOR, a label signee, joined in, collaborating on a variety of songs including “Come and See Me,” “Moth Balls,” “Somebody Love You,” and “Spider-Man Superman.”

For the inaugural concert night, the OVO rapper opted for an R&B atmosphere. Artists such as Mario, Bobby Valentino, Bryson Tiller, and Giveon were given the mic to play their hit singles. Furthermore, PARTYNEXTDOOR, a signed artist, participated in the event, performing tracks with the rapper that spanned from “Come and See Me” to “Moth Balls,” “Somebody Love You,” and “Spider-Man Superman.

The unexpected star moment of the evening was when Drake invited Lauryn Hill to perform, and her rendition of “Ex-Factor” morphed into Drake performing his 2018 hit song “Nice For What,” which uses a sample from Hill’s 1998 Grammy Award-winning album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” for his grand finale.

As a passionate fan, I can’t help but express my awe at the electrifying atmosphere at the festival. Witnessing that mind-blowing mashup was like nothing I’ve ever experienced live before! It was absolutely surreal to be there in person, feeling the energy surge through the crowd. Even social media sensation BenDaDonnn couldn’t hide his shock when Hill appeared on Adin Ross’s live stream. Truly an unforgettable moment!

Last weekend at the Essence Festival, Hill’s performance was noticeably different from expected, as she played to an almost empty stadium at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans due to logistical problems that caused her set to be moved to around 3 a.m. Essence accepted accountability for the technical issues leading to the delay, acknowledging on Instagram, “She arrived on time, took the stage, and delivered a performance only a legend can. The delay? Not hers. We’ll handle it.

After releasing his new single “What Did I miss?,” which touches on his 2024 feud with Kendrick Lamar and other musicians, Drake is set to perform at the Wireless Festival once more this weekend (Saturday and Sunday). This is not his first time performing at the festival, as he has graced its stage in 2012, 2015, and most recently in 2021. The Wireless Stage has seen performances from renowned artists such as Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Jay-Z, and Bruno Mars throughout the years, making this its 20th anniversary.
