Journalist Bryson “Boom” Paul announced on X that Drizzy’s Frozen Moments, LLC withdrew their petition with the Supreme Court against two companies on January 14. The legal action by Frozen Moments, LLC has been terminated without any financial consequences for any of the parties; Spotify, who earlier filed an opposition, did not object to the withdrawal, while Universal Music Group (UMG) chose to maintain its stance regarding the issue.
Although the boy’s dispute with the companies has been settled in a New York court, his lawsuit against UMG and iHeartRadio in Texas remains ongoing and is scheduled for discussion on January 28th.
In November 2024, Drake asserted that Universal Music Group (UMG) and Spotify had illegally amplified the popularity of “Not Like Us” by employing bots and payola, thereby breaching the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. He also accused iHeartRadio of operating a “pay-to-play scheme,” using it to broadcast “Not Like Us” on the radio waves, with UMG supposedly channeling payments to the platform for this purpose.
On January 14th, Drake’s company, Frozen Moments, LLC, submitted a withdrawal order for their petition against Universal Music Group and Spotify, filed with the Supreme Court. This means they have terminated the legal action at no cost to either party.
