Drew Barrymore Remembers 50 First Dates: Fans Demand a Reunion with Adam Sandler!

Drew Barrymore is reminiscing about her past by sharing memories of the 2004 romantic comedy “50 First Dates” on Instagram. This movie, directed by Peter Segal, tells the story of Lucy Whitmore (played by Barrymore), a woman with short-term memory loss. Adam Sandler’s character, Henry Roth, had the special challenge of making her fall in love with him repeatedly, as she forgot their previous encounters. A nostalgic post on Instagram from Barrymore, addressed to Sandler and captioned “Flashback”, shows them dressed up for a scene where Henry serenades Lucy with the song “Forgetful Lucy.“.

The romantic comedy movie titled “50 First Dates” debuted in theaters on February 13, 2004, and proved to be a financial triumph with a global gross of nearly $200 million. Despite garnering mixed reviews from critics (the film earned a 45% rating on Rotten Tomatoes), the chemistry between Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore was undoubtedly captivating. “50 First Dates” served as their second joint project, following “The Wedding Singer” in 1998. After “50 First Dates,” they teamed up once more for the film “Blended” in 2014; both films were directed by Frank Coraci.

Supporters swarmed the comments section, encouraging Barrymore and Sandler to work together again on a new venture. Many also proposed ideas for a follow-up movie, suggesting possible titles like “Another 5000 First Dates”, “The 51st Date”, or “50 First Weddings”.

Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler Could Make More Movie Magic

The proposal for another collaboration between Sandler and Barrymore, which stems from discussions spanning several years, finally materializes following their conversation at the 2020 MTV Movie & TV Awards. During this event, Barrymore fondly recalled working with Sandler over three decades, inspiring Sandler to propose a potential future partnership.

In the year 2023, during the Mark Twain Honors ceremony, Barrymore revealed that she and Sandler were on a quest for a project with substance to film. Sharing the stage as they bestowed the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor upon Sandler that night, Barrymore and Jennifer Aniston jokingly reminisced about their past roles as Sandler’s romantic interests, having appeared alongside him in “Just Go with It,” “Murder Mystery,” and its sequel, “Murder Mystery 2.” During interviews for the sequel on Good Morning America that year, Aniston and Sandler hinted at their wish to collaborate with Barrymore.

Just this month, Barrymore revisited the idea of working with Aniston and Sandler, telling ET:

I’ve been discussing a potential three-part project with him and Jennifer Aniston, and it’s something I truly hope we can pull off. The key is finding the right timing for it to work out.

With Sandler and Barrymore’s longstanding friendship and their hints at collaborating again, it seems inevitable that they will work together soon. If they manage to bring Aniston into the project as well, it would just make things even more delightful.

50 First Dates, featuring performances by Barrymore, Sandler, Rob Schneider, Sean Astin, Dan Aykroyd, and Maya Rudolph, is now streaming on Amazon Prime for a delightful post-Valentine’s Day viewing experience. The film has climbed up to the number five spot on Amazon’s chart. If you fancy revisiting Barrymore and Sandler’s collaborations, you can rent The Wedding Singer from Amazon or catch Blended on Netflix.
